Patrick Mahomes

The new NFL season is upon us, and the excitement is growing, but one question is on everyone’s lips: can Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win another Super Bowl? NFL tipster Sam Farley gives us his season preview and NFL betting tips.

NFL Tips

Super Bowl winner – Cincinnati Bengals
AFC Championship winner – Cincinnati Bengals
NFC Championship winner – Green Bay Packers
MVP – Joe Burrow
Most regular season receiving yards – Garrett Wilson
Offensive rookie of the year – Jayden Daniels
NFC West Division Order Exact – 1st San Francisco 49ers/2nd Arizona Cardinals/3rd Los Angeles Rams/4th Seattle Seahawks

Super Bowl Winner – Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are sixth in the betting to win Super Bowl LIX and given what we saw last year it’s understandable why they aren’t higher. In truth, it’s very hard to look past either of this past year’s Super Bowl teams, the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers. However, the odds aren’t huge, given the variables involved in the NFL.

Of the teams behind the two favourites, the Bengals look like the value play. The departures of an inefficient Joe Mixon and WR3 Tyler Boyd aren’t as big losses as they seem, and their defense will likely improve from the unit that ranked 31st last year.

The big reason for backing the Bengals is Joe Burrow, or more precisely, a healthy Joe Burrow. He struggled with injury last year and didn’t finish the season, but they looked good when he was healthy. On both occasions in ‘21 and ’22, when he last completed a season, they made the AFC Championship game and were losing Super Bowl finalists once.

He comes into this season healthy, and that should scare the rest of the league. The ceiling for this team is sky-high, and at big odds, they are the team to back.

If we have the Bengals winning the lot, then they’ve got to win the AFC Championship.

NFC Championship Winner – Green Bay Packers

The 49ers are favourites for a reason, but we’re taking the Green Bay Packers at big odds. This is a team that finished 9-8 last season as they finished second in their division behind the Detroit Lions. Still, we saw them grow hugely through the season, with Jordan Love announcing himself as a legitimate quarterback star in this league.

When it really mattered down the stretch, they found ways to win, including winning their final three games of the regular season before facing the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card Round, a game that saw them hang 48 points on their opposition. Then they faced the 49ers and narrowly lost 24-21, with the 49ers going on to narrowly lose to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

The margins of defeat were close for the Packers, and it wouldn’t take much improvement on last year to see them upset the odds, something they have the talent to do.

Joe Burrow #9 of the Cincinnati Bengals

MVP – Joe Burrow

If Joe Burrow stays healthy and plays at the level that we know he can, then he’ll be this season’s MVP. He’s been a star since being drafted first overall in 2020 and has the ability to make a tilt at the MVP gong.

During college, we saw him take LSU on his back and lead them to glory. He’s one of a select group of NFL players with an almost Tom Brady-like ability to get the job done and win.

He’s only finished two of his four seasons, and in those campaigns, he threw 34 and 35 touchdown passes, respectively, and was firmly in the MVP discussion, finishing with a passer rating of about 100 in both. With his favourite target, Ja’Marr Chase, now also fit, this is a one-two punch that could tear the league to shreds.

Most regular season receiving yards – Garrett Wilson

The favourites have some question marks here. A 30-year-old Tyreek Hill on an offense with lots of weapons might see a slight regression. CeeDee Lamb’s Cowboys might have hit their peak already and then there’s Justin Jefferson, who is somehow third favourite despite having Sam Darnold throwing him the ball.,

That leads us to the Jets’ Garrett Wilson, who is available at big odds. Last year he put up over 1,000 receiving yards despite having a carousel of terrible quarterbacks.

Now he has a fit Aaron Rodgers, a former league MVP and somebody who has sung his praises since arriving in New York. Rodgers will feed Wilson. That much is certain.

With a high target share on what should be a good offense, we could really see Wilson shine. This is a guy who’ll likely see double-digit targets most weeks and, much like Davante Adams in Green Bay, should feast thanks to Rodgers.

Offensive rookie of the year – Jayden Daniels

The Washington Commanders QB is second favourite to finish as OROTY but with Caleb Williams around even money, it’s Daniels who is the play. Williams was taken first overall and should be brilliant but it’s crazy to have a rookie, untested at this level, at a dysfunctional team with odds so short.

Daniels was picked one behind Williams in this year’s draft and is a hugely exciting prospect. He won the Heisman Trophy in college last season after throwing 40 touchdowns and rushing for a further 10. He’s the real deal, dangerous with both his arm and legs, and it’s likely to be far closer between him and Williams than the odds suggest.

NFC West Division Order Exact – 1st San Francisco 49ers/2nd Arizona Cardinals/3rd Los Angeles Rams/4th Seattle Seahawks

The NFC West is one of the most interesting divisions in football this year, but barring any major shocks, the 49ers should win it. They are so well-coached that they are nearly injury-proof and so strong across the board.

Then it’s the Cardinals, who were at the bottom of the division last year and are set to improve the most and take the second spot. Kyler Murray is now fit again and has a truly elite target in Marvin Harrison Jr. They’re going to surprise many people and Kyler Murray could be in the MVP discussion come winter.

The Rams somehow find ways to win, but Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp, both of whom struggled with injuries last year and continue to age, are too high-risk.

Fourth are the Seahawks, who are a good team but lack the elite quarterback that the other teams have, something that will likely see them finish at the bottom of the division.
