Thanks to the clocks changing we’re getting our Week Eight dose of NFL action an hour earlier this week with the late games starting at 8:05pm. We’ve got a divisional clash between the Chiefs and Broncos plus some of the league’s most exciting offenses, the 49ers, Bengals and Ravens, as well as the best defense in the NFL in the Browns all in action. It’s going to be a fun week, so lets get stuck into it.

8:05pm: Cleveland Browns @ Seattle Seahawks

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Over 35.5 Receiving Yards

Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a great profile coming out of Ohio State which is why the Seahawks drafted him 20th overall earlier this year. So far in his rookie season he’d had fairly middling returns, not scoring a touchdown in his first six weeks and failing to top 50 yards once.

Then fellow Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf got injured which led to JSN having the best performance of his career last week against the Cardinals. The headlines were that he grabbed his first NFL touchdown but a closer look at the numbers gives us real promise ahead of a tough game against the Browns’ defense. He played 38 of 59 snaps and crucially ran routes on 82% of Geno Smith’s dropbacks.

He also lined up the majority of his snaps out wide, rather than in the slot where he’d been previously. Given that he had the team’s highest target share last week I think we can be fairly confident in the rookie WR getting Over 35.5 yards this Sunday, even against the formidable Browns.

8.25pm: Baltimore Ravens @ Arizona Cardinals

Baltimore Ravens (-9.5)

The Ravens exploded last Sunday putting 38 points on the Lions and restricted their opponents to just six points. That was a huge statement and this Ravens’ offense that looked disjointed earlier in the season has really begun to click in recent weeks. They’ve averaged 24.4 points per game, 10th in the league and now face a trip to face a Cardinals team who are 1-6 and have really struggled since that shock win over the Cowboys in Week Three.

In the past two weeks we’ve seen the Cardinals put up just 19 points and what’s more worrying is that they’ve lost their last four games by double digit amounts. With the Ravens in red hot form that’s a trend that could very well continue on Sunday so we’ll take Ravens (-9.5).

8:25pm Cincinnati Bengals @ San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco 49ers to win

A couple of weeks ago the 49ers had become favourites to win the Super Bowl and everything was looking rosy in San Francisco, then they had two successive defeats and now face the Bengals with backup Sam Darnold the starter due to Brock Purdy being in the concussion protocol.

I’m not brave enough to back either side on the spread, so I’m going to back the 49ers on the moneyline at far smaller odds. This fame could be closer that expected with Joe Burrow returning to full health and the 49ers having a backup QB under centre, but I believe that Kyle Shanahan’s system is nearly QB proof and Darnold should be able to excel within it.

The Bengals have allowed 71 points in their three games on the road, while the 49ers have scored 107 points in their three games at home. I can’t help but think that the Niners will find a way to win this.

8.25pm: Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos

Rashee Rice Over 3.5 Receptions

Rashee Rice’s reception line sits at 3.5 which seems like a line that we simply have to take. Rice has had at least four targets in six of seven games this season and comes into this after a couple of weeks in which it’s clear that he’s rising up the Chiefs’ depth chart.

Rice is clearly developing a chemistry with Patrick Mahomes and has hauled in four or more passes in his past three games. Only two teams in the NFL allow more passing yards per game than the Broncos, so it’s likely that we see Mahomes and the Chiefs target this and Rice is likely to be the main beneficiary behind Travis Kelce. Take the Over here.

Javonte Williams Anytime Touchdown

Broncos RB Javonte Williams returned from a season ending injury this year and has slowly been getting back to the levels that we saw pre-injury. Last week his 15 carries against the Packers were a season high and he averaged 5.5 yards per carry, another season high. Williams is incredibly allusive and despite coming back from a serious injury he’s still had 4.3 yards per carry all season.

With his rare mix of speed and lateral movement he’s a real menace but, despite being a threat in both the ground and passing games, he is somehow yet to score at touchdown this season. He’s had 77 touches without finding the endzone, a league high and that has to end soon, particularly with increased usage and with him getting healthier each week. I fancy Williams to bag an Anytime Touchdown.
