The Los Angeles Chargers are still winless heading into week three but one of the bright spots for their team has been the performance of veteran receiver Keenan Allen. The 31-year-old started the year with 76 receiving yards against the Miami Dolphins before exploding for 111 yards and two touchdowns last week in an overtime loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Scheduling usually keeps the Chargers and Minnesota Vikings apart but Allen will be delighted to see them this week. In three career games he has amassed 29 catches for 330 yards and a pair of TDs. I expect a lot of passing in the game and Allen will surely benefit with Over 75.5 Receiving Yards.
Justin Jefferson Over 100.5 Receiving Yards
The NFL has a lot number of talented receivers but there is one man who stands above the rest; Justin Jefferson. The reigning Offensive Player of the Year has started the season at a sensational pace – topping 150 receiving yards in both games, comfortably leading the league.
It would be tough to bet against the 4th year receiver leading the way all year. The Chargers have the worst passing defence in the league this season, so Jefferson topping 100 yards again is well worth a bet.
The Houston Texans have had a strange start to the season, they are 0-2 but there have been some bright sparks, most notably the play of their rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud, who led the league in passing yards last week. Unfortunately for Texans fans, a lot of Stroud’s passing yards are a result of the team playing from behind and chasing the game, which they will likely be doing again on Sunday.
Trevor Lawrence is establishing himself as one of the best passers in the league and his Jacksonville Jaguars side are 8.5 point favourites in this game. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them live up to that billing, in a game that will likely feature another impressive looking stat line from Stroud in a heavy defeat. It’s the Jags in the handicaps.
Denver Broncos @ Miami Dolphins
Miami Dolphins -6.5 points
When Tua Tagovailoa plays, the Miami Dolphins have one of the most exciting offences in the league over the last two seasons and it takes some real offensive firepower to keep up with them. Unfortunately, this Sunday’s opponents, the Denver Broncos, don’t really possess that skillset. Last year the Broncos were the worst offence in the league and are firmly middle of the road at this early stage.
With Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert available to attack a lacklustre Denver side, I’m expecting Tua and his team to comfortably cover their 6.5 point handicap line in their first home game of the season.
Buffalo Bills @ Washington Commanders
Stefon Diggs Anytime Touchdown
Denver’s last opponent, the Washington Commanders, allowed the Broncos to score 33 points last week and this week sees them face a much more potent offence. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills scored 38 points last week and what was most surprising about that is that Allen’s favourite target, Stefon Diggs, had a relatively quiet game.
Diggs will be primed and ready to go as he looks to return to his usual level of performance. I’d expect him to be involved early and often, ending the game with at least one touchdown to his name.
