Miami Dolphins @ LA Chargers
Raheem Mostert Anytime Touchdown
The Dolphins were linked with a number of big name free agent running backs this year but they didn’t get any deals over the line, which means Raheem Mostert is sitting at the top of the depth chart going into Week One.
I’m not a huge fan of Mostert as a runner but he can be effective in the Dolphins system and what is key to remember is just how bad the Chargers were against the run last year. Even though the Dolphins have the likes of Jayden Waddle and Tyreek Hill to catch passes, they can’t afford to neglect the ground game against a team who had the worst record in terms of yards per carry against the run last year. Back Mostert to find the end zone and it increases our odds nicely.
Justin Herbert Over 290.5 Passing Yards
While I’d be urging the Dolphins to avoid throwing the ball and focus on the run game, I can’t say the same for the Chargers. New OC Kellen Moore was brought in to take Justin Herbert’s game to the next level and I’m confident it will.
We’re now into the fourth year of Herbert’s NFL career and he’s excelled consistently. He’s my personal pick for MVP this year and I’m expecting him to take a jump given the talent around him. Against the Dolphins I’m expecting him to throw Over 290.5 passing yards.
Philadelphia Eagles @ New England Patriots
Kenneth Gainwell anytime touchdown
Kenneth Gainwell to score is another unsexy pick but it’s one that has a far higher likelihood than the odds would imply. Gainwell has never really been the man at running back for the Eagles but we have to consider that towards the end of last season the Eagles really focused on getting him the ball.
Miles Sanders was the RB1 in name only because he had a near 50/50 touch split with Gainwell in the teams last five games and was heavily under targeted in the passing game compared with Gainwell. Sure, D’Andre Swift and Rashaad Penny have arrived in Philly, but the team will still use Gainwell and his odds are exceptionally large.
Philadelphia Eagles Moneyline
Although I think there’s a chance we see a regression from the Eagles, who reached last year’s Super Bowl, I don’t think it comes as early as Week One when they’re up against a poor Patriots team.
We know that the Patriots will be incredibly well coached, they always are, but there’s a lack of real quality on offense that I think will see Eagles win with ease.

Los Angeles Rams @ Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks Moneyline
Another divisional game on what is a brilliant opening Sunday in the NFL and this time it’s one that’s far easier to predict that the Packers and Bears were. This will be a Seattle win. The odds aren’t big if you bet it as a single, around 1/2, but they’re short for a reason.
This Rams team may have Sean McVay as Head Coach, something which will get them a few wins at least this year, but they’re lacking top talent across the roster. Cooper Kupp, their best offensive weapon is out injured and Aaron Donald, while still a defensive titan, can’t do it all alone.
The Seahawks have improved their roster in the offseason and will be hoping to build on what was a promising year with Geno Smith under centre last year. In front of their home crowd they will pick up the W here.
