San Francisco 49ers @ Pittsburgh Steelers
Christian McCaffrey Anytime Touchdown
After escaping a terrible Carolina Panthers side midway through the 2022 season Christian McCaffrey was an instant success on the West Coast, accounting for 14 touchdowns in 14 games.
The 27-year-old has found success in his only career game against Pittsburgh when, in 2018, he scored all three of Carolina’s touchdowns in a heavy defeat. I’m expecting him to start this year where he left off with at least one more TD.
Pittsburgh Steelers +2.5 Points
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has never had a losing record in Pittsburgh and a big part of that is down to his ability to get his team for opening day. Under his leadership the black and gold have a 10-5-1 record in the first game of the season and each of the past two years have started with upset victories over the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals. Sunday’s game will likely be close and Pittsburgh +2.5 points seems worth a look.
Houston Texans @ Baltimore Ravens
Over 43.5 points
The Baltimore Ravens spent the offseason building a new set of assets for $260 Million man Lamar Jackson. After adding receivers Odell Beckham in free agency and Zay Flowers through the draft, the Ravens QB made the outlandish claim that he’s aiming to “throw for 6,000 yards this season. While he certainly won’t manage that the visiting Texans’ defence will give him a chance to score heavily.
The second overall pick C.J. Stroud will start for Houston at quarterback against a Ravens defence missing Marlon Humphrey, their best cornerback. Look for the Ravens to win a high scoring encounter.

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons
Bijan Robinson Anytime Touchdown
Both sides are rebuilding, but Atlanta are much further along in their efforts. The Falcons have bought into a run-heavy style and added to that in this season’s draft when they picked Bijan Robinson, the best running back in college football last year.
Carolina’s defence allowed 17 rushing touchdowns in 2022 and showed little sign of improvement in preseason. Falcons head coach Arthur Smith had success with Derrick Henry in his previous job as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator and will be looking for his first-round pick to play a similar role for this season’s Falcons.
Arizona Cardinals @ Washington Commanders
Washington Commanders Moneyline
Its going to be a long old season for fans of the Arizona Cardinals. James Conner is a solid running back and Marquise Brown has shown flashes of ability in his short career, but the Cardinals 2023 offence is much more “Who?” than a “Who’s Who?” and the defence doesn’t look much better.
USC quarterback Caleb Williams is the presumptive first overall pick in the 2024 draft and Arizona don’t even seem to be hiding the fact they want to be in pole position to get him. Washington boast a strong defence and Sam Howell will want to make an impression after winning the starting QB job in the capital. Anything other than a home win would be a huge surprise.
