Playoff football begins in two weeks, but it’s worth considering these next two rounds of games an extension of the playoff system for multiple reasons.

The entire premise of the playoffs is that it becomes a knockout tournament – one-and-done if you’re of the American linguistic persuasion.

A little mini tournament where you have to win every game or you’re not hoisting Mr. Lombardi.

But you’d need to be an actuary with a high-end calculator to figure out exactly what each game means in terms of probabilities.

Friday 1:16am: Dallas Cowboys @ Tennessee Titans
TV: Sky Sports NFL

Well, luckily for me, there are hundreds of free websites and publications that will do that for you and make you sound highly intelligent. Welcome to Thursday Night Football!

Tennessee are in the unique position where they’re alive but don’t need to win despite two games remaining. The reason for that is because they’ve got a divisional showdown next week with the Jaguars.

And for Dallas? Jalen Hurts’ injury and their victory over Philly last week has them smelling blood. It’s conceivable Hurts is done for the regular season, giving a very real possibility of the NFL’s best unit not even winning their division due to their fiercest foes overturning them.

That prophecy needs a win here to come to fruition. See? High stakes.

Dallas Cowboys -12.5

My rule is that when a line moves to two touchdowns that I always take the points regardless of the situation. I’d anticipated this line opening up at an even bigger number but it’s not to be.

If Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry were fit and healthy here, I’d say something – they might end up getting competitive because of in-game spats or benefitting from Dallas resting starters/trading points for time.

But Tennessee’s list of absentees is longer than that of Tom Brady’s Tinder matches.

Simmons, Petit-Frere, Hooker, Dupree, Cunningham, Cole and Thompson – as well as Henry himself, Tannehill, Kristian Fulton and Denico Autry.

Do not be tempted to take the points.

Dak Prescott Under 232.5 Passing Yards

There’ll just be no need to do it.

Especially if they end up going three scores up in the first place. Given you’ve got two very capable running backs and an offensive line that’s facing a defensive front without four of its key playmakers, I think they’ll seek to make this game as short as possible and keep the ball out of Dak’s hands.

Tennessee likely won’t be aggressive on defense either, so I don’t expect missed assignments to lead to big Dallas plays through the air.

Hassan Haskins to Score Anytime

Late in the day. Dallas winning by 23. The Titans march down the field against the second-string Dallas defense. First and goal. You can bet your life that they’re handing it off three times in a row to the running back because that’s their entire blueprint in the redzone, Derrick Henry or otherwise.

Ezekiel Elliott to Score Anytime

Much to the annoyance of his fantasy football managers, Tony Pollard doesn’t really get red zone carries. We don’t know why – we can’t explain it. But for some reason, they seem to think that just because they’ve paid Zeke to play quarterback, they have to make him touch the ball every time they’re about to score.

Nauseating.
