It’s the most wonderful time of the year. And you’ll hear a lot of lies about why that is exactly. Is it the family you see once a year forcing to be nicer than you’d otherwise want to be? No.

Is it the sheer amount of alcohol you’ll consume forcing you to misremember quotes from Christmas classics and then argue with the television for getting it wrong? Probably not.

Is it the cat firing herself into the tree to knock down the thirty-quid baubles your ex got you for no reason five years ago but are too expensive to throw out? In-part, that’s kind of funny. It’s definitely not turkey – the most overrated of all meats.

It’s, of course, crunch time in the NFL and no Santa Claus, in-law or baby saviour can argue with me and win. And the later games give us a real reason to be festive don’t they? Russell Wilson finally being outed as over the hill and the single biggest waste of money any franchise has ever committed right in front of a national audience, as well as Tom Brady fearful for his playoff life.

Rams to Win

So, here are some home truths. Denver’s defense is playing at an incredibly high level. And there seemed to be an anticipated trade-off when it came to bringing in Nate Hackett and Russell Wilson. Will they move onto outscoring teams and simply just reshuffling the pack a bit to offload expensive, defensive talent?

Well, their offense resembles a wet sock and their defense is the only thing keeping them from being the worst team in the entire league.

Yes, Baker Mayfield looks slightly uncomfortable under centre right now you do need to remember one key factor – Denver are travelling at Christmas with no motivation to play a team whose head coach is all but hanging them in public. Never take the favourite in this much of a crapshoot.

Cam Akers to Score Anytime

Game script meant that Akers didn’t see as much action as he might have liked last week, but there were two very important things to note. The first is that he had six times more carries than any other running back and the second is that he led the team is receiving yards. Akers is the sole focus of their offense for better or for worse.

Buccaneers (-8)

Tom Brady is tuned in. When he’s focused and got the postseason in his sights, there’s nobody better on this earth. Going to Arizona, the setting for this year’s Super Bowl is prophetic.

Arizona have given up and are clearly ready for next year’s draft pick to paper over systematic cracks. They’ve just given up 24 points to the Denver unit I’ve outlined above. Need I say anymore?

Russell Gage to Score Anytime

It’s really not been an easy time for Gage in Tampa Bay. With Evans and Godwin hogging targets in the deep and shallow part of the field respectively, you’d never comfortably predict big usage for him.

But given Godwin’s injury and Evans getting plenty of attention, Gage snagging three tuddies in the last weeks isn’t an outlier, it’s an indication.
