Handicap: Broncos +2.5

The Broncos have felt like a team a good quarterback away from being a Super Bowl contender for the last few years, so they went out and traded for a former a former Lombardi trophy winner Russell Wilson in the offseason.

Unfortunately, they still look like they need someone else under centre as they come to London as 2-5 underdogs against a Jaguars franchise that would challenge for gold if being terrible were an Olympic sport.

Wilson’s health was in doubt for this game but he is set to suit up on Sunday. Healthy or not, he has struggled to make simple plays since arriving in Denver, their offence scoring just eight touchdowns in seven games so far this season. That’s a league-wide low.

The Jaguars are also 2-5, with second-year QB Trevor Lawrence suffering some ball security issues and yet to really justify “the most league-ready prospect since Andrew Luck”-hype of 2020.

He’s facing a Broncos defence that has every right to be p*ssed off at their offensive unit as they’ve limited opponents to an average of 17 points per game so far.

The Jags have a lot of experience of international games now, but it’s still hard to take a team that last covered as a favourite in 2019 – Jacksonville are 0-5 since then on the rare occasion bookies have preferred them over other teams – to be better than a field-goal against a defence that could be the best in the league. Take Denver with the points.

Total Points: Under 39.5

The Broncos defence is key to the total as well.

Just one of their games has gone over the expected line this season, and that’s reflected in the low total number here of 39.5.

The Jaguars have traded running back James Robinson this week as Travis Etienne has emerged and he is helping them develop their run-pass-option game that coach Doug Pederson enjoyed Super Bowl success with in Philadelphia.

But it’s still early days for them and the Broncos have shut down the Niners, Seahawks and Chargers this season, who have a lot of offensive playmakers.

The Jags possess little outside passing threat and should be handily contained, meaning under is the play here.

Travis Etienne Over 18.5 Receiving Yards

The Robinson trade is a vote of confidence in second-year back Etienne and you’d expect the Jaguars to feature him this week as he grows into an offensive focal point.

The Denver defence has also allowed opposing backs to catch 35 passes for 245 yards in their last five games.

Etienne has also gone over 18.5 yards receiving in five of his seven games this season so far, so the over here appeals.

Courtland Sutton Over 55.5 Receiving Yards

Put simply, something has to start going right for the Broncos offence soon.

Russell Wilson did not become an awful quarterback overnight. He is surrounded with really talented players and a good offensive line.

The Jaguars pass defence is league average based on Football Outsiders’ adjusted DVOA and Sutton is the Broncos best receiver this season, averaging almost 65 yards per game.

If he can play to his level and Wilson can start making some plays against this defence then over 55.5 yards is not a big ask.
