Friday 1.20am: Bills @ Rams
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports NFL

Bills to Win

The NFL is back and there is not a sporting organisation on planet earth that does hyperbole quite like it. However, opening up with the Super Bowl champs welcoming the Super Bowl betting favourites in the world’s most expensive stadium is quite the curtain-raiser.

For all that’s said about the league and its morals, my god does it ever deliver on the entertainment front. The Bills begin the season looking to avenge the biggest hard-luck story of last year when they lost to a coin toss in essence, while the Rams look to defend a title that’s almost impossible to do so, unless of course you’re Tom Brady. But anyway.

This is set up perfectly. The Bills are almost doing a Rams on it by going all-in, and drafting in Von Miller, much like their opponents did last year, adds an incredible air of duality to this.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

I think this the Bills’ time, I really do. And while Buffalo’s advantage in offensive pieces is notable, I think it’s actually the question mark over Matt Stafford that should lead you to siding with the Bills winning on the road.

Opening week is always the correct time to back a road team because the adrenaline and lack of sandwiching games is of supreme benefit. And perhaps my favourite thing about Buffalo is that they don’t sit and pretend they’re going to run the ball.

They know what they are and if they need to throw the ball sixty times to win, they can. I think there’ll be limitations on the LA quarterback here and I wouldn’t be at all shocked if you see them run more times than you’re used to – totally knocking them off-sync in keeping up with Buffalo.

Over 52.5 Points

Wouldn’t be at all surprised to see this game end up with well Over 52.5 Points in truth. It’s just the quick-paced nature with which both of these score – and remember, time is everything in these moments. You need quick, frequent scores if you’re going to be an effective signal-caller in either of those offenses – it’s just that they’ll go about it in different ways.

Isaiah McKenzie Over 30.5 Receiving Yards

What does Josh Allen love doing? Throwing to crossers. And what do the Rams play? Cover 4 shells – a lot.

So while Stefon Diggs is having his corner routes taken away by the perimeter safety and the seams are removed from play by coverage, it’s the underneath stuff that will bear fruit and open up a big play-action shot for Allen later on. Isaiah McKenzie should lead the team in receptions here, too and we’re on him getting Over 30.5 Receiving Yards.

Josh Allen – Anytime Touchdown Scorer

When it comes to the red zone, the most effective play you can call these days is the QB keeper. Allen is a very large man and he has no problem running a mesh point and taking off when disguising a handoff or end around.

The Rams’ red zone defence is sensational and that comes from Brandon Staley’s bend but don’t break mentality when he was there two years ago. The Bills don’t trust any running back here to carry inside the five, and with good reason – their best running back is their quarterback. We’ll finish with Allen Anytime Touchdown Scorer.
