The Carolina Panthers head west to face the Houston Texans in this week’s Thursday night football with the travelling side having a perfect record to defend. Our NFL trader Daniel Whitty’s been running the rule over this weekend’s first Gridiron game to see where the value lies.

Carolina Panthers to Win – Moneyline
The Panthers are coming in fairly hot after a pretty impressive divisional match against the Saints who were very, very good against the Packers in week one. Sam Darnold looked very comfortable and it’s easy to see why with the weapons he has around him this year.
Add in the presence of Christian McCaffrey in the backfield and that just gives Darnold time to pick his passes. This is not really a spot that Houston want to be in because Tyrod Taylor’s gone down with a hamstring injury in the second quarter last week.
They’ve got a rookie QB starting here, with Davis Mills making his debut on Thursday night. With it being Thursday night it’s kind of a short week so he’s not had a lot of time to prepare. With the injury to Taylor we’ve seen a big swing in the markets towards the Panthers Win. I don’t see Houston or Mills causing them many problems.
DJ Moore – Anytime Touchdown
DJ Moore looks to be Darnold’s No.1 option outside of just dumping it off to McCaffrey. He’s targeted him 19 times over the first two weeks and bagged himself a touchdown last week.
If he keeps up this level of production on Thursday night he’ll be walking in for his second one of the season. So, DJ Moore to get an anytime touchdown.
Sam Darnold Over 258.5 Passing Yards
Darnold has started the season playing very well and he’s showing that he can lead an NFL team. The opening two games he’s put up well over this 258.5 Passing Yards mark. With the Texans’ defence just scared to death of McCaffrey that should open up plenty of space for the likes of Moore and Robby Anderson to rack up yards. McCaffrey will be able to get in on the act as well with a few screen passes so Darnold should easily clear the 258.5 Passing Yards line.
Davis Mills Under 220.5 Passing Yards
Carolina’s defence has been surprisingly good at the start of this year, I don’t think many people expected them to be this good. They’ve only allowed 369 passing yard across the opening two weeks. Add in the fact that we’ve got a rookie QB in the shape of Davis Mills making his debut, and the lack of time between games, I’d just be on the Panthers D to smother him and keep Mills Under 220.5 Passing Yards.
Christian McCaffrey Over 47.5 Receiving Yards
It’s a bit left-field that I’m going for McCaffrey for receiving over rushing here but in the first couple of games Darnold’s just been happy to dump it off on a screen pass. With the first two weeks he’s had 89 and 65 yards receiving so I don’t think the Texan D is good enough to stop McCaffrey getting Over 47.5 Receiving Yards.
