Week 2 of the NFL 2021 season has been and gone and one lucky Paddy Power punter won’t forget it in a hurry after making a string of extremely shrewd calls on Sunday night.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
The glorious Glasgow-based gridiron watcher must’ve been glugging down jugs of coffee like they were bottles of Irn-Bru – which probably would’ve had the same effect tbh – if they stayed up to see how their Sunday night/Monday morning NFL Bet Builder turned out.
It would’ve definitely been worth the bleary-eyes and foggy head the following day though, as they correctly picked TEN – yes, that’s a 1 and a 0, 10! – straight bets on the Baltimore Ravens’ 36-35 win over Pat Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs.
Any spectacularly priced punt has to start somewhere, so we’ll get the obvious thing out of the way first – that’s Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who is almost as certain as death and taxes when it comes to the Anytime TD market.
The Ravens’ rushing QB Lamar Jackson also made it into the endzone – twice – on the ground to bring in another odds-on leg of this outlandish punt. He didn’t get all the TD scoring glory though, as running back Latavius Murray rounded off the three TD scoring bets at odds of under 2/1.
Nice little three-legged bet builder for sure, but there was plenty more to come here, as our punter picked the Over on the total points line of 53.5, with that obliterated long before the fourth quarter even got going in what was always likely to be a shootout between two of the league’s premier quarterbacks.
And so it proved as Lamar Jackson and Pat Mahomes both smashed their passing yards projections too, the former also doing the same on his rushing yardage, with 107 yards from scrimmage meaning our punter now had seven of his ten legs up.
Clearly a big fan of the Baltimore offence, the final three picks all hinged on Ravens players outperforming our traders’ expectations.
Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown lived up to his name making a series of crucial catches for home team to claim a score and 113 yards on six receptions, while his teammate Ty’son Williams, a running back who was expected to be a reserve this season until the injury curse struck the Ravens repeatedly in train camp, followed up a strong week 1 performance with 77 yards on the ground, surpassing his 48.5 yard line with ease.
That meant the 220/1 Bet Builder came down to tight end Mark Andrews, who made our lucky winner sweat before inching past the 52.5 line with his 57 total yards, meaning their £15 stake turned into a whopping £3,318.18 payout.
Not a bad way to start the week, even if you missed out on a few ZZZs watching it.
