Bryce Mitchell v Kron Gracie – Kron Gracie by Submission

This matchup comes out of nowhere. It might look like matchmakers have thrown Kron Gracie to the wolves after his puzzling performance in his last fight, but stylistically, he might have a chance in this one.

The Jiu-Jitsu World Champion took a four-year layoff after his loss to Cub Swanson in 2019 before returning to fight Charles Jourdain last year. Although it looked like no progress had been made with his MMA skills, he was throwing very few strikes, showing no interest in wrestling before pulling guard, and hoping his opponent would come down and join him on the canvas. Jourdain didn’t take the bait and won a very straightforward fight, landing 80 strikes to 30 with no wrestling and jiu-jitsu involved whatsoever.

Bryce Mitchell will take that bait though. Thug Nasty is a grappler averaging over seven takedown attempts and 1.6 submission attempts per 15 minutes of fighting.

Kron Gracie won the ADCC final (think World Cup of Jiu Jitsu) via a guillotine when his opponent shot in for a takedown. If Kron can hit his guillotine on the best grapplers in the world, he could wrap up Bryce Mitchell’s neck.

Kron also only has one way to win this for me, by submission and I’m quite attracted to that price. Bryce doesn’t have any wins by KO/TKO in the UFC so Kron Gracie should have the full scheduled 15 minutes to lock up a submission and get the tap.

I’m going for the very speculative Kron Gracie by submission.

Ciryl Gane v Alexander Volkov – Ciryl Gane by KO/TKO

I didn’t realise this was a rematch until I started my research. Ciryl Gane beat Alexander Volkov by decision in 2021 during his ascent up the rankings before winning the interim title against Derrick Lewis.

Gane is a short-price favourite here, but I’m loving the Gane by KO/TKO price. He’s an elite striker in the division, with his last three wins coming by KO/TKO.

Yes, he couldn’t knock the Russian out in their first outing, but he did land 135 significant strikes. At heavyweight, where any strike could be fight-ending, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t get the finish this time.

Shavkat Rahkmonov v Ian Machado Garry – #WhatOddsPaddy – Shavkat Rahkmonov to win & Round 2 to start

This is the type of fight you’d never get in boxing. Two undefeated, highly-rated fighters facing off with no belt on the line. Making great fights is what the UFC is all about and these two fighters deserve some credit for making this happen at short notice.

One interesting aspect of this fight is they used to train together a couple of years ago. They know how those sparring sessions went but yet they both still signed up for this fight.

There are rumours that Shavkat knocked Ian Garry out in training. There are also rumours that Rahkmonov had his number in the grappling exchanges. It could be Reddit spoof, mind you, but Ian Garry has admitted to being submitted in training by the Kazakhstani.

Shavkat looks like a very well-balanced fighter. In 18 professional fights, he has eight wins by knockout and 10 by submission. That’s a 100% finishing record, and he has a 100% record at defending takedowns in the UFC. However, his weakness seems to be landing his own takedowns, with just a 29% success rate.

The Irishman has had a tougher schedule, and he’s had a couple of close fights of late—a split decision win against Geoff Neil and another very cagey win by decision against Michael Venom Page—indicating he’s starting to find his level.

Ian Garry is Shavkat’s toughest opponent yet. I’ll go with one of the #WhatOddsPaddy offers, Shavkat Rahkmonov to win & Round 2 to start
