UFC betting tips: Back 10/3 ‘Korean Zombie’ to win in Busan

The UFC has landed in South Korea.

Chan Sung Jung

The UFC has landed in South Korea, and they’ve brought their two biggest Korean stars along with them to wow the fans in Busan this weekend.

Main event star Chan Sung Jung, better known to the MMA world as “The Korean Zombie” headlines the event on Saturday, while “The Korean Superboy” Dooho Choi is also set for action on the main card.

Both feature strongly among our fight night picks ahead of this weekend’s bouts. Here’s our trio of value picks for the event.

‘THE KOREAN ZOMBIE’ TO STOP ‘THE ANSWER’

Saturday 12:30

Chan Sung Jung‘s relentless fighting style should mesh beautifully with former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar‘s all-action approach in what looks set to be an exciting main event. But Chan should have enough to outpoint “The Answer”, who isn’t quite the same force he was a few years ago.

Chan’s last two victories have come via KO/TKO finish as he has defeated Dennis Bermudez and Renato Moicano. But Edgar is a different type of test, and while a knockout finish is certainly possible, a five-round decision looks the better value selection, at 10/3.

Edgar has the gas tank to go all five rounds, and is more than capable of taking the fight the distance with his slick boxing. But Chan’s non-stop pressure should be enough to force Edgar out of his comfort zone and make it an uncomfortable night for the former 155-pound world champion.

Pick: CHAN SUNG JUNG TO WIN BY KO/TKO – 10/3

RAKIC TO ANNOUNCE HIMSELF AS A THREAT

Saturday 12:00

Swiss light heavyweight Volkan Oezdemir exploded onto the scene with a barrage of quickfire finishes a couple of years ago. But now the hunter has become the hunted as Austrian knockout artist and kickboxing ace Aleksandar Rakic steps up to face Oezdemir this weekend.

Both men are eyeing top contender spots in the UFC’s 205-pound division, but while Oezdemir has been there and lost out, Rakic still has that crucial upward momentum, and his stunning highlight-reel knockout of Brit Jimi Manuwa is still fresh in the memory.

Rakic is bigger and rangier than the powerful Oezdemir, and has the kickboxing skills to dictate where the fight takes place. Oezdemir needs things at point-blank range, but Rakic can strike with power from anywhere, and that ability should prove crucial.

We reckon a stoppage win for the Austrian looks more than likely, with the 6/4 well worth taking.

Pick: ALEKSANDAR RAKIC TO WIN BY KO/TKO – 6/4

‘THE KOREAN SUPERBOY’ TO RETURN WITH A WIN

Saturday 11:30

When it comes to Dooho Choi, looks can be deceiving. He looks like a teenage nerd, but fights like an absolute savage. And we’re likely to see the latest example of that this weekend when he takes on Canadian Charles Jourdain.

Jourdain lost his UFC debut to Desmond Green on the scorecards last time out back in May, but Choi is a different beast altogether, and the returning South Korean should have the opportunity to showcase his crowd-pleasing fighting style in front of his own fans.

Jourdain has never been stopped, but he’s never faced someone with the hand speed and punch power of Choi, who looks an excellent bet to get the job done inside the distance at 7/5.

Pick: DOOHO CHOI TO WIN BY KO/TKO – 7/5
