Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll know this is Frankie Dettori’s final season in the saddle, which means he’s set for one last hurrah at Royal Ascot.
The iconic jockey has ridden an incredible 81 winners at the royal meeting, the first of which came in 1990 when steering Markofdistinction to victory in the Queen Anne Stakes.
There has also been eight successes in the most prestigious race of the whole meeting, the Gold Cup, including three on super stayer Stradivarius.
Ascot was the setting for, arguably, Frankie’s greatest achievement in the saddle as he rode all seven winners on the card at the track on September 28, 1996. A near-impossible achievement branded the ‘magnificent seven’.
The Italian is enjoying a fine final season having steered Chaldean to 2000 Guineas glory and Emily Upjohn to the Coronation Cup so he will be eager to land a few big winners at Royal Ascot this week.
