The Grand National 2022 is almost here so you’re probably busy trying to pick your horse for the Aintree showpiece.
One of the best places to start working through the list of runners is by looking towards the top of Paddy Power’s betting market as the last four winners all went off at relatively short prices (11/1, 4/1F, 10/1, 14/1).

Whether to back the favourite is another matter, however, as the most fancied horses boast a mixed record over the years with just 10 managing to win the Aintree showpiece since World War II – the latest being Tiger Roll in 2019 – and 37 failing to complete the course.
To give you a pointer ahead of Saturday’s big race, we’ve picked out five of the market principals, according to the odds drawn up by Paddy’s top traders.

Any Second Now
A fine third in last year’s Grand National, Any Second Now has been campaigned for the race by trainer Ted Walsh, who saddled Papillon to glory in the 2000 renewal. A couple of spins over hurdles during the winter period blew away the cobwebs before a fine victory in the Bobbyjo Chase in February.
Minella Times
The winner of last year’s renewal has to defy plenty of trends if he’s to retain his Grand National crown but Rachael Blackmore has stayed loyal to the eight-year-old and is on board once again. He’s up 15lbs in the handicap from 12 months ago and has to carry top weight as he attempts to follow in the hooves of Red Rum and Tiger Roll by becoming the third horse since World War II to become a dual winner.
Snow Leopardess
Ah, what a story this would be! After giving birth to a foal, Snow Leopardess returned to the track and has taken her form to new heights this season with a hat-trick of wins under her belt including a success over the Aintree fences in December’s Becher Chase.
Eclair Surf
The mount of Tom Bellamy proved his stamina when finishing second in the Eider at Newcastle in February and that form was given a healthy boost by the winner, Win My Wings, romping to glory in last weekend’s Scottish Grand National. He’s 4lbs ahead of the handicapper due to the weights for this being set before his last run so he ticks plenty of boxes.
Delta Work
It’s easy to see why punters have latched on to Delta Work after beating dual Grand National winner Tiger Roll in the Cross Country Chase at last month’s Cheltenham Festival. A scorer at Grade 1 level in the 2020 edition of the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup, the nine-year-old is trained by Gordon Elliott, who has saddled three Grand National winners, and is the pick of top stable jockey Jack Kennedy.
