The stars of the Classic generation are being primed for the biggest race of the Flat season in the UK – but who is the favourite to win the 2022 Epsom Derby?
Bolshoi Ballet was the 11/8 leading fancy for last year’s contest but the Galileo colt failed to fire and could only finish a disappointing seventh of 11 runners. The market did prove useful to picking the winner 12 months ago, however, as a late gamble on Adayar came good with Charlie Appleby’s charge storming to victory at odds of 16/1.
Luxembourg was the longtime favourite for this year’s renewal but the 2000 Guineas third has been ruled out of the race by Ballydoyle trainer Aidan O’Brien due to injury, which has certainly shaken things up.
We’ve taken a look at Paddy Power’s antepost odds for the 2022 Epsom Derby and picked out the four horses at the top of the market.
Desert Crown
A whole host of fancies have flopped in trials but Sir Michael Stoute’s charge lived up to the hype with a striking victory in Thursday’s Dante Stakes to head our antepost betting for the Epsom Derby. Hurricane Lane – third in the Derby and the winner of the St Leger – won last year’s renewal of the Group 2 at York.

Ballydoyle’s new number one for the race rapidly climbed our early betting after a 5½l victory in the Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown, won by his sire Galileo in 2001.

Changingoftheguard
A rapid climber of the antepost market after trouncing New London in the Chester Vase, Ballydoyle’s second string has shown plenty of improvement at the age of three after a trio of winless runs last season.

Piz Badile
The Ulysses colt established his credentials for the Classic by winning the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown last month and that form has since been boosted by the second, Buckaroo, winning the Listed Tetrarch Stakes.
