Paddy’s pal Peter Crouch swapped slugging pints for forking out for them at Cheltenham on Thursday after losing a bet over the winner of the Stayers’ Hurdle.
Crouchy took up a friendly wager with the boss himself for the race, with the loser having to splash out on 1000 beers for punters at the Festival’s legendary Guinness village.
Paddy was feeling particularly patriotic on St Patrick’s Thursday at the track, and vowed to pick up the tab if an Irish horse DIDN’T win the Grade 1 showdown.
Crouchy had every non-Irish horse as his side of the bet, was duly left out of pocket as Irish raider Bob Olinger with Rachael Blackmore on board won for Henry De Bromhead.

The odds were heavily stacked in Paddy’s favour but somehow we forgot to tell Crouchy that!
While many were surprised to see Bob Olinger, who went off at 8/1, beat the favourite and fellow Irish runner Teahupoo, Crouchy was left scrambling for a cash machine to stump up the cash for the thirsty racegoers getting ready at the bar.
In fairness, he didn’t slip out the back door like we’ve all seen our mates do when it’s their round.
So the big man stepped up and forked out £7,800 for 1000 pints of Guinness.
Fair play, big man.
Crouch pulled a few pints for some lucky punters and he had a Guinness himself to soften the blow of the tab and listening to Paddy’s gloating for the rest of the day.
He’ll be back to give us his Bet Builder for the Carabao Cup between his former club Liverpool and Newcastle on Sunday… when he’s shaken off the hangover.
