The Cheltenham Festival 2023 is now less than two weeks away and we’ve got top trader Frank Hickey on board with us to hopefully get you more bang for your buck.
The Cross Country Chase, run over a mammoth 3m 6f, is the fifth race on Day 2 of this year’s Cheltenham Festival and Frank has been looking at the markets to hopefully find you a winner.
Last year’s winner Delta Work tops the betting once again but could stablemate Galvin take him on? Or is there a bigger-priced runner to get behind?
Delta Work beat Tiger Roll in the Cross Country last year and he’s at the top of the betting. He ran a solid race at Cheltenham in January when finishing third behind Back On The Lash and Deise Aba. He was conceding a lot of weight that day and softer ground would suit him better. He’s going there as the one to beat and it’s harder to beat these classy types now it’s not a handicap.
I like Back On The Lash but he’s ground dependent. Handicaps give him a better chance but if it’s good ground then he’s a fine each-way shout.
Gin On Lime is worth a mention, who is a seven-year-old mare. She’ll get the allowance and there are slight stamina concerns but the ground should suit and she’s being aimed at the National.
I’m not worried about this being Galvin‘s first crack at the Cross Country and if Gordon Elliott is keen, then it’s worth taking that on board. He has a huge chance and he has a good Cheltenham record. The only reason there is a gap between Galvin and Delta Work is that the former hasn’t ran in this yet. I’m all over Galvin.
*Paddy’s gone Non Runner Money Back on all races at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. That means if you back any horse in any race antepost and they don’t show up where you want them to for whatever reason you’ll get a full refund on your wager
