We’re just a week away from the Cheltenham Festival, which means it’s the final episode of our antepost tipping podcast series as attention turns to the handicaps.
The From The Horse’s Mouth team ran the rule over the Pertemps Network Final, with legendary jockey Ruby Walsh, Paddy’s trader Frank Hickey and tipster Rory Delargy giving their early fancies ahead of final declarations.

Ruby Walsh:
“Winter Fog has been well tipped up and his priced has plummeted so the value has gone on him.
“I like Alaphilippe. He won the Prestige Novices’ Hurdle last year at Haydock and was was fifth in the Albert Bartlett behind Vanillier. He’s only run this season was at Warwick behind Sporting John where he cruised up on the outside going to the second last, was still in with a shout going to the last but weakened towards the finish. It was his first run in a long time. He was dropped a couple of pounds for that. He was a 143 horse going into the Albert Bartlett and has fallen back to 138 and in an open contest, I’d be siding with him.”
Frank Hickey:
“Alaphilippe is one of the buzz horses for this as he was a big eye-catcher in the qualifier at Warwick. He’s short enough, though. I also suspect Winter Fog won’t be going off any shorter than he is now.
“The one I like came sixth in the qualifier at Punchestown in November. He’s becoming a little bit of a cliff horse for me – it’s Folcano. He was relatively weak in the betting in the qualifier at Punchestown, which suggests it was never really the intention of winning. I’m convinced there’s a big handicap in him, he’s only seven and the fact he could go off 15/2 in last year’s Martin Pipe with Galopin Des Champs and Langer Dan would suggest he’s well treated. He’s 4lbs higher this time round but I don’t think it’s the greatest Pertemps.”

Rory Delargy:
“I quite like the look of Remastered. Everyone thinks he would have won the Ladbrokes Trophy but for coming down. He warmed up for that by finishing a very close third in the qualifier at Aintree. It’s interesting that his only entry is for this race.
“He’s run very well off this mark before. He gets 10st 3lbs. I know he’s been a tad disappointing since Newbury but that’s pretty harsh as he’s running off a stone higher over fences and he’s not been disgraced in two very competitive handicaps. He’s almost as good over hurdles as he is fences and a mark of 133 seems generous to me.
“I also quite like Tullybeg if the ground dries out. He travelled very well in a qualifier over course and distance in October and hasn’t been seen since. He could run in the Coral Cup as well.”
