We’re just over a week away from the Cheltenham Festival 2022 which promises four days of quality racing as the brightest and best take to the track at Prestbury Park.
You won’t be able to miss our pundit Matt Chapman during the meeting as he’ll be providing us with exclusive tipping columns and popping up on ITV Racing’s live coverage. Speaking on the latest episode of our From The Horse’s Mouth podcast, Chappers revealed his best advice for anyone planning to bet on Cheltenham.
Matt Chapman:
“The biggest tip I can give to anyone looking to have a punt is to look for horses who have been to Cheltenham before and run well. I don’t care particularly what price they are.
“Buena Vista, for example, is an absolute classic and his stats are crazy. I can’t believe he hasn’t got a race named after him at Cheltenham! In 50 races under rules, he ran 21 times at Cheltenham and it must be some sort of record. Obviously, he didn’t run at 21 Festivals but he was sixth in the Champion Bumper, third in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, he won two Pertemps Finals and was placed in another, he also ran in an Arkle. It’s crazy what he managed to do at Cheltenham.
“Horses can have terrible form throughout the year and suddenly be revitalised by the test they get at Cheltenham, which they never get in Ireland and in the UK at any other meeting. The Festival provides a strongly run gallop and bigger fields they don’t get anywhere else in the season.
“You can look at all the form but a very simple tool is to find horses that have been there and run well at Cheltenham before.”
