The Grade 2 Ten Up Novice Chase is one of the big races on a cracking card at Navan on Sunday.
National Hunt Chase prospect Run Wild Fred is the star name among the six declared runners but Paddy Power trader Frank Hickey will be keeping a keen eye on another of Gordon Elliott’s horses.
Why? Well, our man Frank has spotted that Jamie Codd, who has ridden the winner of the National Hunt Chase on three occasions since 2015, is booked on Braeside which could be a clue about his mount in next month’s Cheltenham contest.
Paddy’s gone Non Runner Money Back on all races at the Cheltenham Festival 2022 – and Frank reckons Braeside’s price could shorten considerably if he performs well at Navan.
Frank Hickey:
“It’s very interesting that Jamie Codd is riding Braeside, with a view to potentially riding him in the National Hunt Chase.
“I haven’t had a bet on this race – and I’m not sure I will – but I have taken a few quid on Braeside for the National Hunt Chase. You’d imagine if he runs poorly he might not even go so you’ll get your money back but if he runs well and you have Jamie Codd on board, he’s going to be a single-figure price for the National Hunt Chase.
“Is it something to do with Jamie Codd not really riding Gigginstown horses? If that’s the case he won’t ride Run Wild Fred at Cheltenham either and this’ll be the horse he’d ride.
“The jockeys are nearly as important as the horses when it comes to the National Hunt Chase.”
