Irish eyes will be smiling, the Guinness will be flowing and I’m sure by the time the Champion Chase is here we’ll all be having a sing-a-long on Zoom. Ireland were well fancied to win the Prestbury Cup anyway but on St Patrick’s Day we felt it’s only right to pay out as the Irish look set to dominate Cheltenham this afternoon.
Come on you horses in green.
That’s right, we’re paying out on Ireland to win the Prestbury Cup at Cheltenham – before day two of the Festival even starts. The Irish currently lead 5-2 after day one, and have leading fancies in every race this afternoon, with Bravemansgame the only English-trained horse at odds shorter than 8/1.
We’ve got a healthy double-figure price for all seven races today to have an Irish winner and really put the crown on a fantastic St Patrick’s Day for Irish racing fans and punters.
The Willie Mullins pair of Monkfish and Chacun Pour Soi are hotly fancied for the Brown Advisory Plate and the Champion Chase respectively.
The opening race is headed by Bob Olinger and Gaillard Du Mesnil who are both flying the Irish flag while the top four in the betting in the Champion Bumper are all representing Irish yards.
Joseph O’Brien has the two leading fancies in the Grand Annual while Ireland also have the favourite in the Coral Cup with Grand Roi for Denise Foster.
The only speedbump in the road may be the Cross-Country which is headed by Easysland, but the next three in the betting are all Irish. It’s odds-on that the Irish win at least five races this afternoon and streak ahead in the Prestbury Cup.
