The Triumph Hurdle signals the start of the final day of the Cheltenham Festival, with the famous Grade 1 contest serving to whet the appetite ahead of the headline event – the Gold Cup.

Run over 2m 1f, the Triumph Hurdle sees the field tackle eight flights as the most promising juveniles compete for a purse in the region of £125,000. Only four-year-old horses can enter the event, which is staged on the New Course at Prestbury Park and is considered a natural stepping stone to the Champion Hurdle in subsequent seasons.

Former winners include Grand National hero Tiger Roll, promising chaser Defi Du Seuil and Burning Victory – ridden by Paul Townend and trained by Willie Mullins – who inherited victory in 2020 after Goshen unseated Jamie Moore at the last.

Triumph Hurdle tips

Ruby Walsh: “I’ve been ZANAHIYR’s biggest fan since the Fairyhouse Winter Festival. His performance that day was incredible.”

FULL PREVIEW: RUBY WALSH’S CHEAT SHEET FOR FRIDAY

Frank Hickey: “Zanahiyr sets a high standard a deserves to be a short-price favourite and his form looks stronger now with Saint Sam running so well in the Boodles on Tuesday, but I just think TRITONIC is going to relish the test that the new track at Cheltenham presents.”

FULL PREVIEW: FRANK HICKEY’S BEST BETS FOR DAY 4 AT THE 2021 FESTIVAL

Matt Chapman: “Zanahiyr has shortened up in the betting with the Itish dominating but I was blown away with TRITONIC at Kempton last time and the conditions should be ideal.”

FULL PREVIEW: MATT CHAPMAN’S 7 BEST BETS FOR DAY 4 AT THE FESTIVAL

Gina Bryce: “One of the most highly touted Irish horses of the week, Zanahiyr looks a formidable favourite in the final day opener with three wins over hurdles so far revealing his accurate jumping technique and versatility with regards differing pace scenarios. There is no doubt he sets the bar high but its one I think TRITONIC will reach and surpass with yet more improvement expected on his third hurdle run.”

Mick Fitzgerald: “I have watched ZANAHYIR closely since the first day I saw him win at Fairyhouse, he came into the contest having won at Ballinrobe in a five-runner race and he was second favourite to Saint Sam. He beat him easily and had the clock watchers purring about the performance.”
