14:05 – Norn Iron
Plenty of in-form sorts to consider, with NORN IRON just about the most persuasive option. Still unexposed for Harry Derham, he chased home a next-time-out winner at this venue on his penultimate start and was better than the result when heavily backed at Doncaster last time. He’s a hold-up performer, who is bred to get further, so should be well suited by the ‘strong’ pace predicted by Timeform thanks to the likes of Six And Out, Jackpot Des Bordes, Beau Quali, Kalium, Serious Challenge and Glynn Brae who should all race prominently. Serious Challenge has the scope to do better in this sphere, given his Flat form, with Doncaster winner Calimystic and Alexei – who should appreciate the better ground – completing the lengthy shortlist.
14:40 – Riskintheground
Again, there looks to be plenty of pace in this competitive handicap chase which should suit RISKINTHEGROUND. The Dan Skelton-trained eight-year-old hasn’t made much of an impact of late, but he hinted at a return to form at Huntingdon three weeks ago, so could be worth chancing now just 1lb above his last winning mark; his yard won the last two renewals, too. The in-form Saint Segal is a solid alternative, impressing when coming well clear over C&D in December, with Theatre Man another to keep an eye on back from a break (had a breathing operation). The step up in trip should suit Real Stone, who wasn’t given a hard time at Kelso last time, and he could run well at a big price.
15:15 – Siog Geal
A classy bumper horse last season, Irish point winner SIOG GEAL should relish the step up to 2½m and can strike from what looks a favourable opening handicap mark (116) for a yard that has turned a corner of late. Pismo Beach, who shaped well in fourth at Huntingdon last time, Crazierthandaisy, who has been given a break since winning at Warwick in December, and the hat-trick-seeking Jasmine Bliss are other newcomers to handicap ranks who should have more to offer. The drop in grade should suit Rockstown Girl, who won well at Chepstow on her first foray across the Irish Sea in October, while Scarlet O’Tara bled when pulled up at Carlisle last time but should appreciate the drop in trip/better ground here.
15:50 – Don’t Mind If I Do
The Alan King-trained DON’T MIND IF I DO made mistakes when four lengths third to Champagne Chic at short odds last time, but his previous form reads well, not least his second in a big-field bumper here last spring, so he’s worth another chance to defy a penalty at the main expense of Southwell winner I Play County. John Barbour showed promise when two lengths second to No Questions Asked at Ludlow on his hurdling debut, staying on to close the gap on an eased winner, and is open to improvement, while Judgementofsolomon is a noteworthy newcomer to hurdling based on fairly useful Flat form (sold from Sir Mark Prescott for 90,000 guineas in October). French recruit Coconut Grove is another to watch in the betting on his hurdling bow.

16:25 – Tiddesley Wood
Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ TIDDESLEY WOOD caught the eye under a patient ride when 3¾ lengths third to Storming George on debut at Doncaster in January, keeping on having met interference multiple times, and can build on that promise and land this valuable prize. Recent Doncaster scorer At The Oche, who is from the family of Foxhunters’ winner Baby Run, who was fifth in a Grade 2 bumper over C&D in 2004, and Dan Skelton’s Kempton runner-up Kadastral are likely to go well, while point bumper winner Hard Stare is one to note in the betting for the Anthony Honeyball yard which tasted success in this race two years ago. This better ground should suit Exeter fifth place Talk To The Man, while Klub De Reve showed promise on debut (behind Tiddesley Wood) and is another to consider, along with well-related newcomer My Fortune.
17:00 – Javert Allen
The Jane Williams-trained JAVERT ALLEN is enjoying a fine season and can consider himself unlucky not to be unbeaten over fences, ridden perhaps a shade too aggressively when narrowly denied at Chepstow last month. With further progress on the cards, he can defy a 4lb higher mark to regain a winning thread at the expense of Major Fortune, who left his chasing debut effort well behind when finding just one too good at Leicester recently. Teddy Blue, who hasn’t been with his thriving yard for long and did plenty wrong when scoring at Kempton last week, completes the shortlist along with Ballybreeze who represents last year’s winning connections and ran well here last time so commands respect from a slightly reduced mark.
17:35 – King’s Threshold
KING’S THRESHOLD is the improver in the line-up and can land the hat-trick. He’s taken his form up a notch since the tongue-tie was fitted at the start of the year and looks up to defying a 5lb rise for his ready Warwick win last month. The well-handicapped top-weight Fidelio Vallis seemed to turn the corner at Doncaster three weeks ago, and is interesting back down in trip from a reduced mark, while C&D winner Neon Moon goes well and is another to consider having been given a three-month break since his Ludlow second in December. Golden Son would be a big player if putting his best foot forward but he’s become too hit and miss to recommend with confidence.
