17:28 Wolverhampton – Bajan Blue
BAJAN BLUE did really well on her racecourse debut to get up in a blanket finish to win at this venue in January. She then ran a respectable race when third, stepping up in distance over an extended 1m3f at Southwell, yet looked still very immature when push came to shove. Going up in trip to 1m4f will suit and she looks attractive with an unexposed profile.
17:45 Newcastle – Trais Fluors
The old boy of the party at 11 years old TRAIS FLUORS still has plenty of pep in his step. His last four successes have all come at this venue, so that’s a positive. He was too eager in the early stages last time and now drops back down to the specialist 7f, He can be expected to produce his telling late charge up the final furlong.
19:00 Wolverhampton – Beta Reader
Charlie Johnston’s runner BETA READER came from the absolute clouds to get up last time over course and distance. That was from an even worse draw in box 12 and he now races from stall nine. He’s only been given a little nudge of 2lb by the assessor which makes the possibility of going back-to-back very likely.
19:15 Newcastle – Mayo County
MAYO COUNTY absolutely bolted up here last time over this 6f trip and has quite rightly climbed to a perch of 60 in the ratings. She doesn’t have the advantage of a stand-rail draw, but if the track plays the same as it did on Thursday, then there won’t be a massive advantage on the stands-side rail. She goes up a notch up in class, but looks up to the task.
19:30 Wolverhampton – Sceptic
SCEPTIC made no mistake in getting the cash last time at this track, going off as a well punted 3/1 favourite. He also appears to have flown under the radar from a handicapping point of view, as it wasn’t that long ago he was rated up in the 90’s. Runs off 59 now.
20:15 Newcastle – King’s Crown
KING’S CROWN has only very recently dropped down to the minimum 5f trip for trainer Michael Dods and produced a couple of very solid efforts in that time. He’s a hold-up performer so relies on them going a pretty decent tempo in the early stages. That looks likely, with Frank the Spark and filly One in the line-up. All is in place for a big effort.
