Horse Racing: ‘He could be one of my better chances at Newbury on Saturday’ says Harry Cobden

Five of Harry's six rides on Saturday are for his guv'nor Paul Nicholls and Talk To The Man could be his best chance in a valuable bumper (16:25)

14:05 – Jackpot Des Bordes

A novice handicap hurdle to start where JACKPOT DES BORDES makes his first start of 2025, having had two quick runs in November and December.

He won the first time up at Taunton but was beaten the second time. Looking at his profile, I see he should appreciate the better ground.

He’s not the biggest, but he’s consistent and he schooled well on Tuesday morning. Paul wouldn’t be running him here if he didn’t think he had a chance, so I’ll hope for the best.

14:40 – Matterhorn

We haven’t seen him in a while, as he needs better Spring ground. So, it wouldn’t surprise me if MATTERHORN needs the run.

He carries top weight in the 2m 4f handicap chase against match-fit horses, but he’ll love the ground. The track is not an issue and he could run well.

Matterhorn Win or Each Way

15:15 – Clotilda

This French import, CLOTILDA, was a first-time winner for us at Huntingdon on soft ground in December but has disappointed a little since then.

She has a featherweight this time in this 2m 4f mares’ hurdle limited handicap and while she acted okay on soft ground, we’ll have to see how she handles the likely better ground on Saturday.

16:25 – Talk To The Man

A 2m bumper worth £100k in total where I ride TALK TO THE MAN for Paul Nicholls. He won a point-to-point in Ireland last April but was fifth on UK debut at Exeter on New Year’s Day.

I galloped him last week and he went well. While he’s a chaser in the making, he should run well. Given the prize money on offer, I hope he does, but he could be one of my better chances on the day.

17:35 – Golden Son

GOLDEN SON was never really at the races last time at Kempton when the ground was very soft, so I pulled him up.

He’s not badly handicapped and I expect him to run a lot better now.
