Captain Kinsella has been punished by the handicapper for his novice win over C&D in December but it was a big effort under a penalty and he may not have reached his ceiling just yet. Most of the others have something to recommend them too, particularly UNTIL DAWN (nap) who has looked well ahead of her mark this year and can take the step up in class in her stride.

Caballo De Mar was on the up when last seen and he remains capable of better as a stayer this year. The cheekpieces he wore last year are absent on his return, though, and there are race-fit dangers. Swinging London should run his race once again, while there is some encouragement for this trip in Con Te Partiro’s pedigree. STAR LEGEND has been threatening in recent starts, however, and this could be the day he sheds his maiden tag on the Flat.
18:00 Gozo
Provided he keeps straighter, GOZO could well open his Flat account. In-form pair Tortured Soul (second choice) and Bearaway are solid dangers.
18:30 Cracking Gold
Preference is for CRACKING GOLD, whose solid AW record includes a strong piece of recent C&D form. Interesting handicap debutant Sovereign Sea is feared most, ahead of Shimmering Spin who also may show progress.
19:00 North Star
Sea The Stars filly NORTH STAR is taken to defy a penalty and follow up her Newcastle win. Chief form danger Arkinthestars (second choice) and Gosden newcomer Pelean complete the shortlist.
19:30 Spirit Of Summer
Judged on their subsequent form, SPIRIT OF SUMMER has a good chance of reversing Convivial placings with Bowen Island who can’t be dismissed all the same. The selection would be conceding 9lb to the second choice if this were a handicap. Nicely bred Festive Time and six-figure purchase Nutmeg look particularly interesting types among the newcomers.
20:00 Al Arbeed
Stenmark (second choice) sets the standard but he didn’t look entirely straightforward at two and much will depend on whether a gelding operation has a positive effect. Rescue Mission and Hush Puppy have shown promise but AL ARBEED is a newcomer of note and he could be worth chancing.
20:30 Chief Mankato
Westmorian won decisively here last week and won’t be easy to beat despite a 5lb penalty. Ultramarine looks set to go well again but CHIEF MANKATO has been threatening since switched to AW and this could be the day things fall into place.
