13:52 Star Of Guiting

With Lundi Noir a notable non-runner, the other previous winner STAR OF GUITING – who impressed when beating Red And Yellow at Exeter in December – gets the nod despite finding less than looked likely when third to Le Soleil Reve at Hereford last time.

This looks a much weaker contest. Mad Maxios was well-fancied on debut but was held back by inexperience in the same race; a tongue-tie is tried now, but his yard is in good form, won this race in 2023, and has a good record with its hurdlers at the track. Popa Rich shaped better than on debut when runner-up last time but may be more of a handicap project after this.non runner

14:22 Joining Force

JOINING FORCE, who was a runner-up on the second of his two starts in Irish points, promises to relish this step up in trip having been handled considerately over 2m last time and with the scope to do better over hurdles given the promise of his bumper run, he could be the answer to what is an open race.

Ascot third Groovy Blue and Mikimoto – who is one of two runners for an in-form yard and tries a visor in a bid to get to his form of December 2023 – have achieved the most of these over obstacles and look the main threats.

14:52 Smart Casual

The consistent SMART CASUAL ran well in first-time cheekpieces at Leicester last week and could finally open his account if the headgear works as well again in what looks a very winnable race; his jockey has a 39% strike-rate on chase favourites.

An improved showing from Too Cool Forshrule now chasing – he’s from the family of the fairly-useful chaser Haul Us In – for his burgeoning yard could be on the cards, while veteran Ballywood should give his running here once more and doesn’t look to have any obvious rivals for the lead today. A return to this venue could see an improved showing from the experienced C&D winner Pittsburg, too.

15:22 Gms Prince

In a modest affair, the fairly-handicapped GMS PRINCE may prove the most solid option arriving on the back of three creditable placed efforts, and this looks a decent opportunity for him to break his maiden tag while earning a welcome winner for the yard.

At the other end of the weights, Seek Him There is next best, having offered some promise in novice company, and he could improve back up in trip, while the inconsistent Hardy Buck could feature on stable debut back over hurdles, if on a going day.

15:57 Geordie Night

Timeform ‘Horse In Focus’ GEORDIE NIGHT boasts some very creditable form at this level and despite not being seen to best effect when third behind an all-the-way winner – who has won again since – over C&D last month (following an eight-week absence), he looks worth another chance.

Springs A Girl is steadily progressive and there may be more improvement to come over this longer trip, while the lightly-raced Wetherby winner Serious Chat isn’t discounted on his first run after a breathing operation. Any market support for Grangeclare Diego should be noted now he’s up in trip on handicap debut, while a return to this venue should suit C&D winner Ithaka who was out of his depth at Ascot last time.

16:32 Gazette Bourgeoise

The Timeform pace prediction for this race is ‘weak’ which suggests that prominent racers should be favoured; GAZETTE BOURGEOISE was never far from the pace when she recorded a first success over fences in clear-cut fashion at Fakenham to start the year and has run well both subsequent outings, so she is taken to score again from what remains a workable mark based on old form.

Likely front-runner Lagonda also arrives in good heart – unlucky to bump into a well-handicapped sort last time – and is feared most, ahead of course winner Space Voyage and Moonlit Potter, who should relish the return to better ground.

17:07 Shabalko Dherm

Though he’s fitted with a hood for his Rules debut, the vote goes to SHABALKO DHERM, who cost plenty (£140,000) after easily winning a point at Toomebridge in Ireland and is taken to see off Wincanton-third Constantinian in what will likely develop into a straight fight between the pair.

The last-named has a tongue-tie on her,e and this half-brother to the 2m3f/2m5f hurdle winner Apples Moon will likely attempt to put his experience to good use out in front. Osterberg completes the file,d but he has shown very little in two racecourse starts to date.
