13:50 Uttoxeter – Kahavari
This is a tough race to call but I’ll take a chance on Kahavari for Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, who could be well handicapped. He’s only had the one run in this country and he ran well for a long way before finishing second. He was second on his last run in France and that run has held up well. He will have been laid out for this meeting and he could be ahead of his mark.
14:10 Kempton – Asta La Pasta
Asta La Pasta was too free when odds-on at Musselburgh last time out. He tried to make the running but he went a little faster than he wanted to. Teddy Blue and Paddy In The Caddy will likely go forward and that will help Asta La Pasta settle in behind. The drop down to 2m 2f should be ideal and he’s got a hood on for the first time which should also help. I’ll trust the top weight, with Tristan Durrell claiming 3lbs, to get the job done for Dan Skelton.
14:25 Uttoxeter – Joyeux Machin
Joyeux Machin might have a bit up his sleeve over this 2m 7f trip. He was useful for Paul Nolan and after a couple of quiet runs for the Skelton yard, he’s had two decent runs. Dan Skelton does well at this meeting and stepping back up in trip should suit. He stayed on well when second at Ascot last time out and there’s more to come from him. He’s well handicapped on his best form.
14:45 Kempton – Josh The Boss (NAP)
Saint Anapolino is on for a four timer and he’s going in the right direction but I’ve been waiting for Josh The Boss to run. He needs good ground to show his form and his win in the Silver Trophy at Chepstow in October was a decent win. It’s thrown up a huge number of winners. I’m hoping this is the race they’ve had in mind and he’s a course and distance winner. He’s back up in trip to 2m 5f and if the ground is good, he can bounce back to form.
15:00 Uttoxeter – Val Dancer
I like Val Dancer for Mel Rowley. He won the Welsh National at Chepstow in December and ran a cracker when third in the Grand National Trial at Haydock in February. He was wrong in the weights that day too. The yard are showing signs of hitting form and this will have been the plan for Val Dancer. He’s straightforward, races handily, jumps well and remains fairly well handicapped.
15:20 Kempton – Jetoile
A tough race to call! If the ground is quicker, Sure Touch has half a chance off his mark of 138. Bad can follow up his last win over course and distance but I’m siding with Jetoile for Ryan Potter. He’s fallen in the weights but he’s been working his way back to some sort of form. He travelled well when second at Newcastle last time. Dylan Johnston is on board and claiming 3lbs, while this track and 2m 4f trip should suit.
15:35 Uttoxeter – Walk On Quest
This race is hard to unpack. Walk On Quest should go close and the Lucinda Russell yard are in good form. He’s 4lbs higher than when winning at Kelso last time out and the key for him is his jumping. He’s a great jumper and while Stans The Man, at bigger odds, could jump out and make the running with Walk On Quest, I’ll side with Russell’s runner. He’s the pick but it’s a little tentative.
