13:20 – The New Lion
I really like The New Lion. He’s the only English horse in the race and the drying ground is a positive. The track and 2m 5f trip will suit him and Dan Skelton has trained him for the race. He could be one of the best chances of the week for the Skelton yard.
14:00 – Ballyburn
People have doubts over whether Ballyburn will stay but he wants this three mile trip. I can’t see any of the others having anywhere near as much class as him. The trip and track isn’t an issue. He jumps well and he’s the best horse in the race.
14:40 – Be Aware, Impose Toi & Comfort Zone (each-way)
I had a chat with Harry Skelton last week and he is very sweet on Be Aware, who could go off favourite. I also schooled Impose Toi for Nicky Henderson last week and he’s in good form. I also like Comfort Zone as an each-way pick. He’s a tough horse and he always runs his race. He’s run in a lot of big handicaps and he’s on a nice weight. Those three are worth keeping an eye on.
16:00 – Jonbon
The biggest question in here is what will beat Jonbon and I can’t see anything! I can’t see past him as he’s the class act. He’s getting better with age and his jumping is even better now than it’s ever been. Nico de Boinville knows what he’s doing on him. I don’t think it matters how fast Solness goes as Jonbon will be in his slipstream and get past him.

16:40 – Unexpected Party
I really fancy Unexpected Party. He won the race last year and while he’s higher in the weights, he will love the ground. I was riding Libberty Hunter last year and I thought I was going to get past him but Unexpected Party just kept going and I had to settle for second. He’s my pick.
17:20 – No Drama This End
Paul Nicholls has No Drama This End and he could be my only ride on Wednesday. It’s been the plan since his win at Warwick to go for this bumper. He’s pretty solid and he’s got a great temperament. He’s got a massive chance but you don’t know how good the Irish runners are. We’re walking into the unknown as he could be right there or he could run a career best but come up short against the Irish runners.
