14:00 – Siberian Star

A few in-form yards who have the Timeform ‘Hot Trainer’ flag with runners here, but it’s ‘Horse In Focus’ SIBERIAN STAR who gets the nod at the foot of the weights.

He has done well for current connections this winter and remains of interest back off his proper mark over fences after an eye-catching run over hurdles recently; Shane Fenelon, who won on him at Catterick in January, is back on board which looks a positive.

Unexposed stayer Champagnesuperover was a convincing winner in his first start in a veterans’ event at Hereford last week and is the obvious threat under a penalty given the ease of victory there (form looks solid, front pair clear). Supervisor would be a big danger if sorting out his jumping and the return of Ned Fox – who has won two of the last three renewals of this race – could help on that front.

14:35 – Tommy Cullen

Course specialist TOMMY CULLEN has conditions to suit and only had to be pushed out to score comfortably here last month on just his third start for the yard. Jack Quinlan was much more positive on him that day, taking the race by the scruff of the neck, and the duo can follow up here despite an 8 lb higher mark.

Bob Bob Ricard may give him most to think about now, dropped in trip after a break (pulled up at Cheltenham when last seen), while cheekpieces may eke out some improvement from Koenigsstern, but he may prefer softer ground to be seen to best effect. In contrast, good ground should suit An Bradan Feasa, but he lacks experience over fences.

15:07 – Shant Wait

The Charlie Longsdon-trained SHANT WAIT, a half-brother to two winners, including the fairly useful 21f-winning hurdler Sea Invasion, looks to have been brought along gradually with handicaps in mind and is bred to appreciate this stiffer test of stamina; he makes fair appeal.

Neil Mulholland has a £59.49 profit to a £1 level stake with hurdling favourites so recent winner Shuil Ceoil, who should head the market, and the class/trip dropping Fierce Warrior are feared most. Clondaw Flame has looked a little wayward under pressure and clearly hasn’t been the easiest to train, but is respected nonetheless, along with Sergeant Fury, who should finish his race better now back on quicker ground.

15:40 – Thank You Maam

None of these can be ruled out, but Georgina Nicholls’ THANK YOU MAAM arrives at the top of his game from handicaps so looks the way to go back in novice company here. His best performances have come when able to dominate, and Olive Nicholls should be able to set her own fractions here.

Haydock-scorer Ski Lodge has better days ahead of him and rates the main threat, for all he faces very different ground conditions to his two wins, with both Stratford winner Minella Rescue and the battle-hardened Hauraki Gulf – who receives 7 lb from his rivals – not discounted either in what looks a competitive little heat.

16:15 – Who Shot The Sheriff

WHOSHOTTHESHERIFF was in the process of going close in a first-time tongue tie at Carlisle last month until his suspect jumping intervened, and is worth another chance dropped in class. The smaller field should help ease the pressure on his fencing (six of his seven wins have come in fields of seven or fewer runners).

In-form pair Jac Jumper, who is still searching for his first British win but has run well in defeat on plenty of occasions, and Just Gino, who only faded late on at Catterick last time, are feared most, though a return to form for C&D winner Gentle Frank would come as no great surprise as he drops significantly in grade for this return to chasing.

16:50 – Eternity Rose

Little form to go on, and Fergal O’Brien’s Time Test gelding ETERNITY ROSE, who catches the eye on paper (dam a bumper/2m-2m5f hurdle winner, sister to the useful bumper and 2m3f-2m5f hurdle/chase winner Twelve Roses), is taken to go in at the first time of asking.

Danger Nap is the only one of three with previous experience and can also have a say now dropping in class from listed company, with Blue Sky Dreaming and At The Oche also worthy of consideration starting out for good yards. Similarly, the market has often got it right with the good Tom Weston bumper horses, so watch out for any support for fellow newcomer Lovis De Sceaux, or the speedily-bred Empire Day, who is a rare jumps runner for the yard.
