13:20 – Honesty Policy (NAP)
A fascinating race. HONESTY POLICY (nap) showed a nice attitude when winning at Navan and if he handles this quicker ground, he could be hard to beat.
There shouldn’t be much between Great Attitude and Coral River on a line through Kish Bank and Naas bumper winner Champagne Jury is another one to consider on his hurdles debut.
13:50 – Polemon
Quint Major is interesting returned to better ground after catching the eye of the stewards at Punchestown last time.
The bumper winner Fortune The Brave will like the ground but lacks a run and the drop back to 2m isn’t certain to suit and it is hard to know what to expect from Net Boy on his hurdles debut after his heavy defeat in a Wexford bumper in October.
A chance is therefore taken on the race-fit POLEMON who will appreciate the drying ground and he ran creditably in a much stronger C&D maiden than this in December.
14:25 – Aspire Tower
On recent form Thedevilscoachman is the one to beat but will he be as effective on the drying ground and over this shorter trip?
The trip is also a concern for Meet And Greet and Pied Piper may be using this as a sharpener ahead of a trip to Cheltenham so a chance is taken on ASPIRE TOWER.
He has to give weight away to the bottom two, but he might get an easy lead here. He won his last start over this trip at Punchestown back in October.
14:57 – Papa Barns
A wide open race. Down Around has been in good form over 2m4f but whether the drop back to 2m will suit is up for debate. Smallcraftwarning is considered on his return from a break, as is Oakley who is capable of better than he showed last time.
Royal Time also has claims but a chance is taken on PAPA BARNS.
He remains a maiden after 18 runs over timber, and he’s 4lb wrong at the weights, but he is capable of winning one of these. The drying ground is a plus, and he ran well over C&D last year.
15:30 – Crescent Moon
Having bombed out last time over 2m4f, it could pay to keep the faith with CRESCENT MOON now dropped back to the trip at which he caught the eye at Cork previously.
Liberated Light has a bit to find with the selection on that Cork form but could still emerge a threat, while others to consider are Makfils and Jolie Jewel. Darcy’s Friend is worth a market check on his first run for a respected yard.
16:02 – Monbeg Park
Several of these from leading yards have questions marks over them. MONBEG PARK doesn’t, coming here on the back of a good third over C&D at the Dublin Racing Festival, and gets the vote ahead of the lightly-weighted pair Tyre Kicker and Broomfield Bijou.
16:37 – Brucejack
An interesting rematch between the hat-trick seeking One Horse Army and Brandt who finished second to that rival at Fairyhouse when slightly hampered on the run-in.
Preference, however, is for BRUCEJACK, who is proven at the trip and whose recent Punchestown maiden second has been franked by the winner. The yard also had a winner at Navan on Saturday.
17:12 – Carrimoorna Beech
Two previous winners in the race, CARRIGMOORNA BEECH, achieved a fair bit more at Gowran than Eternal Echo did in a slowly run four-runner contest at Naas and looks a good prospect.
Chez Fred was unable to justify his market position on debut but is evidently held in some regard, so improvement is likely. Oneinthewell is easily the most interesting of the newcomers.
