*Paddy also has the more traditional ante-post market where you will lose your stake if your selection doesn’t run in the race for whatever reason.
Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’ is back as host Tom Nugent picks the brains of well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy, and jockey and son of the festival’s most successful trainer Willie Mullins, Patrick Mullins for their Cheltenham betting tips.
In the sixth episode of this year’s series, the gang looked at the Champion Bumper ahead of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.

RORY DELARGY
There are a few nice bumper horses in the UK but the only one that makes any serious appeal is Windbeneathmywings. He bolted up at Ascot in December and while he was impressive, the opposition wasn’t too strong. He may need to come forward a bit if he’s going to win the Champion Bumper.
Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott will likely have a huge say in the race and the latter has a couple of nice chances.
Kalypso’chance is the obvious one and he’s taken the exact route that Gordon’s best bumper horses have taken in the past.
He didn’t go to the Dublin Racing Festival but won the Listed Navan bumper in nice style. His form stacks up well and he’s got a big chance.
If I was having a bet today on who’s the most likely winner, I’d probably say Kalypso’chance but because the way the betting is at the moment, Gordon has another one worth siding with in Jalon D’oudairies.
Each-way value
Jalon D’oudairies was third in the race last year behind Jasmin De Vaux. He’s been set aside for the Champion Bumper again and Gordon seems happy with him.
He could be the each-way value pick. Willie Mullins usually has the shorter-priced runners so that usually leaves Gordon’s runners as each-way options at bigger prices.
He’s got the form in the book to run very well and we know he handles Cheltenham. Jalon D’oudairies got a rating of 132 last year and that’s right up there with what you want to be winning a race like this.
If he runs to the same level of last year, he’ll go pretty well. He’s a solid one to hit the frame at least.
