14:15 – River Run Free
RIVER RUN FREE didn’t figure in three relatively quick runs over hurdles, but has proved a different proposition since switching to handicaps over fences, opening his account at the first attempt in this sphere at Lingfield at the end of January. He followed up with minimum fuss over this course and distance 12 days ago, backed as if defeat was out of the question. He’s is just 6lb higher and strongly fancied to complete a hat-trick. Everyonesacritic comfortably rates as the chief threat.
14:45 – Jumper Madrik
JUMPER MADRIK is of a similar ilk to River Run Free, having shown nothing in three starts over hurdles, but starting life over fences from a lowly mark and proving a different proposition. He won both of his starts in this sphere in good style, his jumping was still novicey at Wetherby last time, doing well to recover from an unpromising position and doing all of his best work at the finish. This step up in trip promises to suit him well and he can defy another 7lb rise in the weights. Mixedwave has slipped to a good mark and seems to be coming to the boil, so is feared most.
15:15 – Overabottleofred
OVERABOTTLEOFRED bettered her efforts over hurdles at the first attempt over fences when runner-up over slightly further at this course over Christmas. She would have surely gone close to winning, but for a bad mistake at the third-last, where she lost a few lengths. She chased the leader afterwards, but was never able to get back on terms. There should be more to come from her in this sphere and she looks interesting from the same mark. Lady Pretender rates as the chief threat.
15:45 – Lucky Lugger
LUCKY LUGGER has a very consistent record over fences, yet to finish out of the first three in five completed starts, and he gained due reward in opening his account at Uttoxeter earlier this month. He didn’t need to improve much, if at all, always in a good position and asserting away between the last two fences. He’s 5lb higher now, but a reliable type, who seems sure to launch bold bid. Diamond Dice rather blotted his copybook at Carlisle last time but will be dangerous if putting his best foot forward.
16:15 – Important Notice
Those with Rules experience haven’t shown a great deal, so a couple of well-bred newcomers from the pointing field could dominate, with Denman’s nephew IMPORTANT NOTICE preferred to Bob Olinger’s half-brother Wallace Olinger. The selection has plenty of experience in points, winning three of his last four starts there, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the betting.
16:45 – Gracchus De Balme
GRACCHUS DE BALME rates as the pick of the weights on the back of a good recent Haydock second and, unexposed in this sphere, he edges the vote from course and distance winner Givega, who looks to have more to offer in this sphere and rates as a big threat. Last year’s victor Bennys King can also have a say in this competitive hunter chase.
