13:10 Deafening Silence
Having made a promising debut over fences, DEAFENING SILENCE quickly bounced back to that level when runner-up to an improver at Windsor last month, well suited by the step up to three miles, and this looks an excellent opportunity for him to open his account over fences with cheekpieces added. The biggest threat could come from Destroytheevidence, who had taken well to chasing prior to a lesser run at Cheltenham last time.
13:40 Keppel Queen
It is no surprise to see KEPPEL QUEEN make a swift return to this sphere having looked completely out of her comfort zone when tried over fences here last month. Prior to that she had shown improved form in a couple of handicap hurdles at around three miles and the six-year-old is taken to get back on track by winning this. Barricane is now below his last winning mark and will be a danger to all if perked up by the new headgear, while Siberian Star is also accorded respect, along with Myfanwy’s Magic.
14:10 – Disco Davis
DISCO DAVIS seemed to relish the return to front-running tactics when getting off the mark at Lingfield three weeks ago, pressing on entering the straight and clear when steadied into the final flight. He continues to leave the impression there’s an even bigger performance in him, so he’s taken to defy a penalty moving back up in trip. Carismatic Soldier still has room for improvement in his jumping but should relish the step up in trip, with Prophesea much respected, also.
14:40 – Demnat
DEMNAT made an impressive British debut at Ludlow last season, looking potentially smart as he defied a 32-month absence and, while he didn’t build on that afterwards, he shaped well on his seasonal return at Newbury in November. He looks attractively weighted based on his Ludlow form and, in a weaker race now, he’s expected to get back on the up. Jupiter des Bordes and King’s Threshold head the dangers.
15:10 – Casi Crudo
CASI CRUDO caught the eye when finishing second over this course and distance a couple of weeks ago, not racing anywhere near as efficiently as the winner and doing well to see things out as he did, and if conserving his energy better, a repeat of that effort may be good enough to land the spoils. Chicago Storm is proving a shrewd acquisition for current connections and should run well again, while Risk d’Argent is capable at this level if on a going day.
15:40 – Casa Loupi
The hat-trick seeking CASA LOUPI is 8 lb well in turned out quickly able to race from the same mark as when winning by eight lengths at Sandown last week and he should take all the beating if in anywhere near the same form. The steadily progressive Lanesborough travelled well when runner-up last time, so is worth a second look, while lightly-raced Saint Cyr de Pail should post another respectable effort.
16:10 – The Midwife
THE MIDWIFE has improved for the switch to fences of late, producing a career-best effort when opening her account at Chepstow 12 days ago, jumping well in the main and given a confident ride. She has wisely been found an opportunity to race under a penalty and is strongly fancied to follow up. It could be that Overabottleofred, who made a positive start in this sphere when second at Leicester, will be the one to follow her home. Fashion’s Model is best of the rest.
16:40 – Claim Du Brizais
It was probably a stronger race than this in which CLAIM DU BRIZAIS was an encouraging third on her Rules debut at Aintree and, provided all is well back from a 117-day break, she could take some stopping. Uptown Lass was also pitched into a higher grade contest for her introduction and, given the prowess of her yard, she can be expected to do better, while newcomers Aj’s Diamond, Betty’s Daisy and Uptown Lass’s stablemate Stylish Composer all need a close look in the betting.
