16:25 – El Hibri

Most of these have a point to prove on one count or another. Phoenix Star should appreciate stepping back up in distance but EL HIBRI comes here in good form and that should count for plenty. Roman Emperor is the type to pop up soon and the betting can guide on his return from a 98-day break.

16:55 – Man On A Mission

Shalaa Asker is slumming it at this level relative to the company he kept earlier in his career and a revival is very much on the cards in an uncompetitive race. However, MAN ON A MISSION will be suited by the return to this track and he is preferred. Mighty Gurkha is another to keep an eye on.

17:30 – Rajwa

It’s likely that the outcome revolves around the participation of RAJWA, who is a newcomer but makes plenty of appeal on paper in what looks a weak race. It’s possible that blinkers will allow Target Man (second choice) to channel all energies correctly to the line this time, and that Massimo Blue and Double Mocha will consent to settle better.

18:00 – Party Bear

Cosmic Force (second choice) finished well to go close over 6f here last time and is an interesting contender back up in trip. Penelope Valentine has a solid record in her three handicaps, while Dr Ali could get involved off a reduced mark and Mister Knockout needs watching in the market on his stable debut. However, preference is for PARTY BEAR, who had a near miss on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton last month and is open to more progress on this step up to 7f.

18:30 – Lunanova

The newcomers do not have a daunting standard to aim at and market support for either Emerald Downs or Papa Oscar would be encouraging. As things stand, Champagne Belle shaped well at Lingfield last time and can go well on her stable debut but LUNANOVA is preferred. She never threatened from a poor position on her debut seven weeks ago but she should be more clued up today and Jack Dace’s 7lb claim is a bonus.

19:00 – Magna Grecia Star

Enchanted Way has the best form and she’s respected along with Queen Sansa, who ran green when favourite on her Chelmsford debut in November and could take a major step forward back from a break. However, there are also some interesting newcomers in the line-up and the vote goes to MAGNA GRECIA STAR, who is out of a sister to a Group 3 winner and represents a yard with a record of 6-15 this year.

19:30 – Mesaafi

Grenham Bay has his ideal conditions and can confirm recent C&D placings with Hiatus. Whether he can cope with MESAAFI remains to be seen though as Simon Pearce’s 4yo looked an improved performer tried in blinkers at Newcastle last month. He can defy his 6lb rise in the weights.

20:00 – Local Hero (NAP)

Top of the list is Richard Hannon’s progressive 4yo LOCAL HERO (nap), who made it 3-3 at this track with his comfortable win over C&D in December. Cracking Gold returned from a break with a good second at Southwell 12 days ago and he’s feared most ahead of Brasil Power, who went close over 7f here last week and is a big player if he can repeat that form. Others to consider are Sterling Knight and the handicap newcomer Zoffandia.

20:30 – Hi Ya Mal

The step up to 1m4f has already provoked an upturn in the fortunes of Bruce Banner and Sydney Whistler, and is likely to prove the making of a few more of these, notably HI YA MAL, Bouboule and Antelope. They’re taken in that order, the form of the first-named’s trainer Andrew Balding and a perfectly reasonable-looking mark adding to the allure.
