16:40 Southwell – Makes Me Wonder
We are going to give MAKES ME WONDER one last roll of the dice as he obviously has been a very slow learner, yet the step up in distance today may well bring about a big chunk of improvement. He is taken to turn the form around with Blue Anthem on these 5lb better terms. He badly needed the experience again last time.
18:25 Newcastle – Indalo
INDALO has the perfect 100% record at this venue and it finally looks like he’s been a little easier to train. It’s only 68 days since we last saw him carrying a penalty to success over the course and distance. He has a pretty potent change of gear which can stand him in good stead in this small field if it turns out tactical.
18:40 Southwell – Leadenhall Street
LEADENHALL STREET has gradually got the hang of things with each of his three starts and the drop back down in distance last time seemed to work on the sharp track at Kempton. He was held up at the back of the pack where the eventual winner was always handy, so he did well in the circumstances. The open, galloping nature of this venue, will suit him better.
18:55 Newcastle – Beale Street
We know plenty about most of these in the line-up, whereas the selection, BEALE STREET, was tried over as far as 9 furlongs previously and has only recently been back down sprinting. That’s proved the correct move. Jockey David Nolan appears to hold the keys to the engine and he has a perfect stand-side position from gate 9.
19:25 Newcastle – Flash The Dash
FLASH THE DASH had fallen from a peak rating of 87 all the way down to 52 and took advantage at Southwell last time. He doesn’t look harshly treated from a perch just 3lbs higher and could easily be the type to rattle off a few wins in succession now that he’s back in the groove. He also has the added bonus of being proven over the long sprint distance of 7f up the straight here.
19:40 Southwell – Mr Nugget
MR NUGGET hasn’t had things go his way of late. On z couple of occasions – including last time after being slowly away – he was rushed forward to take a handy position and used all of his petrol up, early. Billy Loughnane gets the ride for the first time and with so much more ground to cover in the straight at this venue, it’s going to suit his strong, grinding, galloping style. He’s overdue a visit to the winner’s circle.
