13:15 Ascot – Bective Abbey
Bective Abbey comes here after just two runs and I’m with him as I haven’t seen anything worthy of opposing him! He could be anything after winning at Warwick last time out.
13:36 Wincanton – Golden Ace
The race could set up for Burdett Road but I’m in favour of Golden Ace. Jeremy Scott’s horses have hit a little bit of form recently while the James Owen yard is in a little bit of a lull. Golden Ace is getting 8lbs and she can stay close enough while having the turn of foot to get away from Burdett Road.
13:50 Ascot – Jingko Blue (NAP)
Jingko Blue won a three-runner race at Windsor last month and I thought he would improve on everything after that run. He’s got a penalty but I’m very keen on him. He wasn’t that strong in the market last time but Seven Barrows think he’ll improve and be a better horse at Ascot.
14:05 Haydock – The Flier Begley
I’m with The Flier Begley, who beat the reopposing Nocte Volatus at Market Rasen last month and I’m expecting him to upload that form. There’s 5lbs difference between them and the swing isn’t big enough to turn the form around.
14:25 Ascot – Altobelli
Joyeux Machin could work out for the Skelton’s but Altobelli relished the step up in trip at Ascot last month for Harry Fry. He’s gone up 5lbs for that run and I’m expecting him to win again. He’ll make Joyeux Machin work hard.
14:40 Haydock – Beauport
This is Beauport’s race to lose. He won at Ascot in November and followed that up when finishing third in December. I can’t oppose him for Tom Bellamy and Nigel Twiston-Davies.
15:00 Ascot – Hasthing
Going up in trip might see Hasthing, who is on a hat-trick, carry the penalty and get the job done again. He got lucky when winning at Windsor last time but I’m not sure the track bought out the best in him. This three-mile trip over a more galloping track will suit.
15:15 Haydock – Val Dancer
There’s a part of me that’s thinking can Val Dancer and Jubilee Express be over the Welsh National to be ready for this. The other part of me thinks Val Dancer could be. I feel he’s up considerably in the weights compared to Jubilee Express. He’s a solid stayer and he’s improving.
15:37 Ascot – Corbetts Cross
I’m not concerned about the 2m 5f trip for Corbetts Cross, my worry is the fences. He just needs to come down out of the air. He’s very clean and deliberate but he hangs in the air. The aim will be to get him down closer to the fences as his target is the Gold Cup. He’s the one horse who can be better than what we’ve seen so far. He’s a bit of a tentative selection as he hasn’t shown his full ability over fences.
