*Paddy Power is now Non Runner Money Back for the 2025 Cheltenham Festival. That means that if your selection does not line up in the race you back it in for any reason – you will now get your stake back. TC’s apply.
*Paddy also has the more traditional ante-post market where you will lose your stake if your selection doesn’t run in the race for whatever reason.
Paddy Power Media’s ‘From The Horse’s Mouth’ podcast ‘Cheltenham Countdown’ is back as host Tom Nugent picks the brains of the Festival’s winning-most jockey turned TV pundit Ruby Walsh and well-known journalist and broadcaster Rory Delargy for their Cheltenham betting tips.
In the fifth episode of this year’s series, the gang have looked at the Albert Bartlett ahead of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival.

RORY DELARGY
There’s usually a big field in the Albert Bartlett and there’s a tendency that if a trainer had high hopes for a novice hurdler but they turned out to be a bit slow, they won’t go to the Supreme or the Turners, so they end up here by default.
It’s very well run, sometimes too well, meaning the winners are horses who can settle and stay rather than the best horses in the race.
Wille Mullins’ Sounds Victorius could be of appeal. He ran well in a Champion Bumper last year that was a test of stamina and he should be suited by the trip, even if he was a little disappointing last time out behind Final Demand at the Dublin Racing Festival.
Just scratching the surface
If I was having a bet I’d be looking at Derryhassen Paddy at a decent each-way price for Lucinda Russell.
He won a point-to-point in December 2023 and then won a bumper last season. He stepped up this season and won at Windsor in January.
He won well that day on a track that doesn’t actually suit him. He beat Honky Tonk Highway who tried to intimidate him but it simply didn’t work.
The way Lucinda spoke about him afterwards made me take note. She called him a beast and she’s really sweet on him.
She may not go to Cheltenham with him as she might feel he’s a superstar over fences next season. She might want to look after him and miss Cheltenham in favour of going to Aintree.
Derryhassen Paddy in the non runner money back market is a solid each-way bet as we’re just scratching the surface with him.
