13:10 – Wicked Thoughts
WICKED THOUGHTS showed fairly useful form in bumpers, narrowly winning at Musselburgh in that sphere, and he shaped with promise on his debut over hurdles at Southwell on his seasonal return in October. The yard wasn’t firing on all cylinders at the time and he would have likely finished runner-up to a promising sort had he not fallen at Doncaster in November. He remains open to improvement, especially over this longer trip, and he’s taken to improve past the standard-setter Tommy The Tank.
13:43 – Play It Again
This looks a good chance for French-raider PLAY IT AGAIN to build on her promising debut second at Cagnes-Sur-Mer before Christmas. She didn’t settle fully on that occasion, but jumped soundly in the main and stayed on well behind a now-useful rival. That form sets a high standard in this field. Nini Star showed a decent level of ability on the Flat and may prove best of the rest having switched to David Pipe, while Graecia was also good enough on the level to think she could make an impact in a race like this if her stamina holds.
14:18 – Simple Getaway
SIMPLE GETAWAY fetched £180,000 after winning an Irish point but showed only minor promise on the second of his three starts over hurdles last season. However, he is the type to make up into a better chaser, running his best race to date when conceding first run on the winner at Ludlow last week, and pulling clear of the remainder. This stiffer test of stamina will be in his favour and he can go one place better sooner rather than later. Scotch On da Rocks has the profile to make a better chaser so may emerge as the main threat ahead of Lock Out.
14:53 – Boys Of Wexford
BOYS OF WEXFORD looks the most solid option having backed up his win at Fontwell with a decent third over this course and distance in December and he remains on a fair mark. Chestnut Pete is potentially on a handy mark back from an absence for a new yard so needs keeping an eye on, while Kings Justice only just failed at Catterick 12 days ago.
15:28 – Ironed Out
IRONED OUT has made a positive start to life in handicaps, progressing again when opening her account at Taunton last month, shaping as though she’ll benefit from a step up in trip. She gets that now and Evan Williams’ mare is taken to defy a 5 lb rise in the weights. Olivia Kate could do with brushing up her jumping but is in good form and remains on a competitive mark, with Miss Pearl also in the mix after being narrowly denied at Bangor last week.
16:03 – Reallyntruthfully
REALLYNTRUTHFULLY is building up a positive profile and, with this looking a slightly weaker handicap than the one he contested at Windsor last time, he’s fancied to resume winning ways. Klic Boum again caught the eye at Chepstow just over a fortnight ago and seems sure to be winning before long, while it remains early days for Oh My Johnny, who’d impressed prior to disappointing on his handicap bow at Haydock.
16:38 – Race To Base
A winner of his only start in points, RACE TO BASE offered something to work on when fourth in a higher grade bumper than this on his debut at Aintree seven weeks ago, and he’s given the narrow vote to build on that, with Rules debutant Kool Kid also of interest. Build Your Dream rates a likely improver following his debut fourth at Taunton and is another needing to be factored in.
