13:55 – Presenting Doy
PRESENTING DOY made a promising start to her career over hurdles when fourth at Warwick three weeks ago, and with that performance supported by the time figure, she looks the way to go contesting an appreciably weaker race here. Just Her Type went close to making a successful Rules debut at Ayr five weeks ago and is considered the main threat.
14:25 – Peacenik
PEACENIK and Pleasington stand out some way on form in this novice hurdle, and preference is for the former.
He opened his account in heavy ground at Exeter two starts back, beating the odds-on favourite, and showed improved form in defeat when finishing third in the Grade 2 Rossington Main Novices’ Hurdle at Haydock last time. There is still room for improvement with his jumping but he should be very competitive back in calmer waters now.
14:55 – Aworkinprogress
Owing to his style of racing AWORKINPROGRESS wouldn’t be the easiest for the handicapper to pin down (arrives late on the scene in his races and typically doesn’t do much in front), and a 5lb rise in the weights for his latest success over this course and distance almost certainly underestimates him.
The six-year-old is taken to maintain his 100 percent record over fences, though if Madaket takes to fences at the first attempt, he could emerge as the main danger ahead of Havaila and Are U Wise To That.
15:27 – Icaque De LIsle
This could be the day that ICAQUE DE LISLE snaps his losing run. He has tumbled down the weights since switching from France and shaped as though in good form back over hurdles at Uttoxeter recently.
He goes well in testing conditions and this doesn’t look an overly strong race. Jukebox d’Eddy disappointed when a warm favourite in a chase at Fakenham last time but could pose the chief threat if a return to the smaller obstacles sparks him back to life.
16:02 – Thor De Cerisy
In a contest where most have a question to answer, the most solid option is THOR DE CERISY, who was second over this course and distance last month and followed that with a decent run in a warm race at Windsor last time.
He goes particularly well in heavy ground and he’s below his last winning mark. Royal Mer showed better signs last time and is handicapped to go well if building on that, while last year’s winner, Clonakilty, could also have a say if reacting well to wind surgery and a change of headgear.
16:37 – Through The Ages
This is wide-open handicap to close the card where it could pay to side with THROUGH THE AGES, who took a step back in the right direction when seventh at Huntingdon last time and can now capitalise on a reduced mark. Market Rasen scorer Double Oban rates the obvious danger, although My Friend Sean, Roi de Baviere, and Copper Cove all need factoring in too.
