16:40 Yeoman
Simon Walker partnered Urban Road to victory over 1m2f at Newcastle last Saturday but this shorter trip may not suit Alan Brown’s charge as well and Walker now switches to course specialist YEOMAN, who can resume winning ways in a first-time visor. Dakota Power completes the shortlist.
17:15 Airman
Some fast horses are on show and it’s hard to believe the early pace won’t be strongly contested. We Never Stop may prove the pick of those who like to race prominently but this could set up for something coming from further back.
Existent holds solid place claims but some of his recent finishing efforts need a bit of forgiving and AIRMAN is preferred. The addition of a hood looks a good move and he looks on a handy mark back at 5f.
17:45 Crafter
His rivals never really got on to Meet Me In Meraki’s coat-tails here last time and he can make another bold bid. This race is full of in-form and/or well-treated rivals, though, including other last-time winners Prince Ali and Green Power, but with a good pace in the offing CRAFTER gets a narrow vote. Tasmanian Legend also needs to be considered.
18:15 The Watcher
Daring Flight is likely to prove a fair bit better than he looked on debut and he’s high on the list, while Political Power ran well on his stable debut and a hood could help him settle better. THE WATCHER looked another smart prospect for his trainer when winning at Newcastle six weeks ago, however, and he can concede 7lb to his main rivals.
18:45 Overnight Oats (NAP)
This race is unlikely to be slowly run and it looks a good opportunity for the upwardly mobile OVERNIGHT OATS (nap) to win again. He was impressive at Southwell last week and although he’s 6lb higher, he has the assistance of a promising apprentice this evening. Autumn Rose also arrives in fine form and she looks the main danger. Diddy Man and Bomb Squad may prove best of the rest.
19:15 Brinton
Quick Away was well supported at Southwell last time and the booking of Rossa Ryan is a clear hint that she’s expected to go well. Headshot looks solid with cheekpieces refitted but BRINTON completely fluffed the start when third behind him 11 days ago and she still has a bit of potential after just nine starts. The return to this C&D should see Inexplicable take a step forward too.
19:45 Dash Power
Ready preference is for DASH POWER who has improved for the step up to about 1m and was off the mark in no uncertain terms over C&D last week. Annalee Lass should have done better at Southwell last month but her previous close fifth at Newcastle has worked out well and she could be the main danger as it’s a fair while since Van Zant ran well over this far.
20:15 Alfheim
George Boughey’s ALFHEIM won three in a row here prior to her well-held fourth at Southwell a fortnight ago and can resume her progress back at Wolverhampton. Khangai can add to his many good efforts this winter and pose the chief threat ahead of handicap newcomer Without Compromise.
