Help Me Rhonda still has some potential after just four starts for James Fanshawe, and although she ended up well beaten here three weeks ago, she was bang there when stumbling one furlong out. She’s high on the list, along with King Of Speed and Claxton Bay (second choice), but THE SPOTLIGHT KID (NAP) comes here in fine form and can gain another Kempton success.
17:30 Joy Of Dubai
Blue Wonder (second choice) and Selenic were runner-up in different divisions of the same C&D maiden three weeks ago and are open to improvement, while Olivia Jane remains of interest. However, JOY OF DUBAI has a classy pedigree and this Roger Varian-trained newcomer earns the vote.
18:00 Berkshire Whisper
Andrew Balding’s horses are running well and this can go to BERKSHIRE WHISPER on the back of his promising debut second over C&D last month. Alone Mehmas is an interesting newcomer, while Sands Of Havana could return to form on her second start back from a break, but the chief threat may come from Middleton View. He failed to shine last May/June but has been gelded since and is bred to be talented.
18:30 Grenham Bay
Even the most stone-hearted of characters wouldn’t begrudge Hierarchy a win after his recent travails, and he has to be high on the shortlist in a competitive sprint. Big R isn’t ideally drawn but has optimal conditions, while Harry Did, Hiatus, Wallop, General Assembly, and Holy Fire (second choice) also have something to recommend them. GRENHAM BAY has turned in two good efforts since blinkers were added, though, and he’s tentatively preferred.
19:00 Enpassant
There should be more to come from Tronido this year, and she’s respected despite a four-month layoff. Lunarscape, Straight A and Ashford Hill can feature, but this could be the day that things fall into place for ENPASSANT. Last week’s C&D third in a similar race was a solid effort and he can race off 1lb lower this time. Rossa Ryan retains the ride and he looks a major player.
19:30 Wonder Legend
A tight handicap in which all six runners have claims. A narrow verdict is given to WONDER LEGEND, whose form is on an upward curve, and he promises to improve again for 2m. Oisin Murphy has his first ride aboard Cello who has been knocking on the door. Alrazeen has earned himself a crack at this higher level.
20:00 Always Waving
Kinetic could threaten if taking to the new headgear and James Owen’s filly did have ALWAYS WAVING behind on her penultimate run. However, the Balding filly wasn’t suited by how that race developed, and she remains capable of better. Last Empress ran quite well here before perhaps taking a dislike to Tapeta.
