Chantry House is bidding to become the first horse since the ill-fated Many Clouds to regain the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham this weekend.
The Nicky Henderson-trained gelding ended his long winless streak since the 2022 renewal when scoring at the home of the Jumps on New Year’s Day, but he faces much-stronger opposition on this occasion in Saturday’s 14:25.
The leading fancies, L’Homme Presse and Gentlemansgame, were placed in the King George VI Chase and Savills Chase respectively last month, Delta Work was a multiple Grade 1 winner in his pomp and Stage Star has plenty of decent form in the book.
Cotswold Chase odds can be found on the Paddy Power website and Paddy Power app, otherwise key historical trends from the last 10 renewals and a tip based off the big-race stats are below.
Cotswold Chase 2025 trends
AGE
- 10/10 were aged between seven and 11
If Delta Work were to score then he would be the oldest winner in the history of the race at the age of 12.
DISTANCE FORM
- 10/10 had at least three runs over three miles or further
Stage Star has never raced beyond 21 furlongs so this represents a significant step up in trip.
LAST TIME OUT
- 10/10 had their most recent run within the previous 30 to 76 days
Chantry House (24 days ago), Gentlemansgame (28 days ago) and Tommie Beau (six days ago) are all being turned out again too quickly based on recent renewals.
RATING
- 10/10 were rated 159 or higher
Chantry House (154) and Tommie Beau (142) currently lack the class, according to the handicapper, to win the race. It is also another mark against Delta Work (157).
Cotswold Chase 2025 trends verdict
L’HOMME PRESSE, fourth in last year’s Cheltenham Gold Cup and third in this season’s King George VI Chase, hits the major marks and emerges as the trends pick from Gentlemansgame and Stage Star.
