12:41 -Humble Spark
HUMBLE SPARK is clearly in good heart, having won his last two starts at this track, the latest over this course and distance in impressive fashion, and he is taken to complete a hat-trick from a 6 lb higher mark.
The one most likely to make a race of it with Jim Goldie’s in-form charge is Federated, who actually got the better of the selection at this course last spring and went close back here following a break last month.
Percy Willis was well adrift of Humble Spark recently and minor place money looks his best hope.
13:11 – Beneficiary
BENEFICIARY confirmed previous promise when resuming winning ways over six furlongs at Southwell earlier this month and has run just as well in defeat twice since, finishing runner-up on both occasions.
He also gets a handy weight pull for his one-and-three-quarter-length defeat by the re-opposing Beaumadier on his penultimate start and he could be up to reversing that form now.
The latter-named is an obvious threat, provided he dispels a lesser run at Southwell six days ago, while Tickets is another on the shortlist.
13:46 – Cloch Nua
CLOCH NUA was well supported on his return from a short break earlier this month and duly came out on top by three-quarters of a length from the reopposing Martin’s Brig over this course and distance.
He didn’t really need to improve on the pick of his efforts, but he can be marked up further given the position he had to come from, and he’s expected to uphold that form now.
Aspire To Glory and Coramento are others holding claims.
14:21 – Wee Fat Mac
WEE FAT MAC hasn’t won for over a year, but he has been holding his form well at present, hitting the frame on his last six starts, and he was only beaten a neck by one who had fallen to a career-low mark over this course and distance last time.
This looks like an open handicap, but Wee Fat Mac arrives in form and races from the same mark now, so he seems sure to launch another bold bid.
Bella Kopella and Sir Maxi are also considered.
14:56 – William Dewhirst
WILLIAM DEWHIRST has proved to be nothing short of a revelation at Newcastle in recent months, making it four wins from five starts at this course when seeing off six rivals with plenty left in the tank last week.
This drop back in trip is unlikely to be an issue and he will take plenty of stopping under a penalty. It would be an understatement to say things didn’t go Alzahir’s way at Chelmsford last time and he is next on the list ahead of Bright.
15:31 – Rainbow Nebula
There should be better to come from RAINBOW NEBULA, who shaped well when third behind a couple of potentially decent types in a novice event over this course and distance during the Christmas period.
He’s preferred to Rebel’s Gamble, who looked promising when making a winning start to his career at Southwell.
He is greatly respected despite carrying a penalty, while newcomer Highfield Artist is appealing on paper.
It’ll be interesting to see how she shapes up in the betting.
16:06 – Spanish Angel
SPANISH ANGEL is the pick at the weights and didn’t perform at all badly when fifth at Wolverhampton recently.
That came in a stronger race than this and is narrowly preferred ahead of Arlington, who put in a good shift in a similar event over this course and distance earlier in the month, while Rockley Point may also have a part to play.
