Fleur De Lys Chase tips and runner-by-runner guide to Windsor 3.05 on Sunday

Can Djelo get the better of Protektorat again?

Djelo

Djelo is bidding to beat Protektorat for the second time in a row in the Fleur De Lys Chase at Windsor this weekend.

Venetia Williams’ rising star spanked the Ryanair Chase winner by 6l in the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase six weeks ago, but renews rivalries on 3lbs worse terms compared to the Huntingdon contest.

Pic D’Orhy brings plenty of class to the table after kicking off his campaign in winning fashion in the 1965 Chase at Ascot last month.

Former Closutton resident Indiana Dream returns to the track after a 407-day break on stable debut for Jonjo & A J O’Neill, while Ahoy Senor and Journey With Me are on recovery missions after making poor starts to the campaign.

Le Patron and Tommie Beau complete the field for Sunday’s 15:05.

Fleur De Lys Chase 2025 verdict

Timeform: DJELO easily accounted for Protektorat in the Peterborough last time and, although 3 lb worse off with that rival now, he’s expected to confirm his authority with the scope for better again. Pic d’Orhy isn’t without hope and an on-song Ahoy Senor would be a big danger.

Fleur De Lys Chase 2025 runners and riders

The following horses have been declared for the Fleur De Lys Chase 2025.

Djelo

Trainer: Venetia Williams Jockey: Charlie Deutsch Age: 7 Weight: 11st 10lbs

Fast-improving chaser who built on a highly encouraging reappearance at Exeter when cruising to success at the expense of Protektorat in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon last time. On worse terms with that rival now but fancied to uphold the form.

*****

Journey With Me

Trainer: Henry de Bromhead Jockey: D. J. O’Keeffe Age: 9 Weight: 11st 10lbs

Very smart chaser. Off 7 months, 11/1, 35½ lengths sixth of 8 to Fact To File in John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase at Punchestown (19.7f, good to soft) 56 days ago. This is easier, so not without hope.

***

Le Patron

Trainer: Gary & Josh Moore Jockey: David Noonan Age: 7 Weight: 11st 10lbs

Won first 3 starts over fences last term, taking Grade 1 Henry VIII Novices’ Chase at Sandown. Back on track to score emphatically at Newbury in November but subsequent run at Cheltenham lacked spark.

**

Pic D’Orhy

Trainer: Paul Nicholls Jockey: Harry Cobden Age: 10 Weight: 11st 10lbs

High-class chaser with a fine record at Ascot and didn’t need to be at his best when winning 4-runner 1965 Chase on return in November. Great record when completing and solid claims.

****

Protekrotat

Trainer: Dan Skelton Jockey: Harry Skelton Age: 10 Weight: 11st 10lbs

Back to winning ways in the Ryanair at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Backed that up when 2½ lengths third to Jonbon at Aintree and, with reappearance behind him, ran well behind Djelo in the Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon last time. Not sure to turn the tables, though.

****

Ahoy Senor

Trainer: Lucinda Russell Jockey: Derek Fox Age: 10 Weight: 11st 2lbs

Not a fluent jumper of fences but top-class on his day and shaped as if as good as ever when third in Old Roan at Aintree on return, leaving the impression he’d have pushed the winner closer had he been asked for his effort sooner. Too free in the Betfair Chase since and can bounce back.

***

Indiana Dream

Trainer: Jonjo & A.J. O’Neill Jockey: Jonjo O’Neill Jr. Age: 7 Weight: 11st 2lbs

Unbeaten in three runs to date, including a bumper, maiden hurdle and a Navan novice chase. Looked an exciting prospect so well worth monitoring in the betting for new stable after 13 months off.

***

Tommie Beau

Trainer: Seamus Mullins Jockey: Micheal Nolan Age: 10 Weight: 11st 2lbs

Landed 3 of his first 4 starts at Cartmel this term and followed up with some solid efforts. Took the wrong course when contesting a Cross Country at Cheltenham before again failing to complete at Sandown 43 days ago. Tough ask.
