13:25 Market Rasen – Nocte Volatus

ITV Racing returns Friday with a bang bang bang show from Market Rasen, Windsor and Newcastle, starting here with a veterans’ handicap chase over an extended 2m5f. NOCTE VOLATUS is in terrific shape and will be hard to keep out the frame at least for Tom Lacey with Cameron Iles taking off 7lb. The 10-year-old won at Chepstow first time out this season before chasing home Gemirande at Ascot. He’s on the same mark of 129 here and there should be a gallop to run at with Numitor likely to be one to catch in the early stages. Deserves a win at this track as back in 2021 was 16 lengths clear here in a handicap chase when falling at the last!

13:50 Windsor – Caldwell Potter

The Grade 2 Lightning Novices’ Chase over 2m. I’ve been gagging for CALDWELL POTTER to be aggressively ridden over 2m in a class contest over fences and now he gets the chance, although with Personal Ambition in the field he’s unlikely to make all. The Paul Nicholls-trained 740,000 euros purchase looked good on debut at Carlisle, albeit a little fresh, but then didn’t see out the effort when beaten by Jango Baie at Cheltenham last time over further. Back to 2m here will be a plus, and the Cheltenham effort wasn’t a disaster in any case as a mistake at the last put him further back than he would have been. Harry Cobden is on top.

14:10 Newcastle – Coachello

On the Flat now for a handicap over 6f. Plenty of pace on here and COACHELLO might be the one to take advantage for Mark Loughnane and son Billy. The seven-year-old has been rate much higher that his mark of 95 in the past, and took advantage of his rating of 92 at Wolverhampton last time when getting up from midfield to score close home. I was there that night and connections strongly suggested that my selection was capable of doing more this year. This is a big chance in a line-up that should suit him.

14:25 Windsor – Panic Attack

A handicap chase over 2m4f. This is wide open. Harry Skelton thinks that PANIC ATTACK – once down the field behind Ferny Hollow in the Champion Bumper – will take all the beating for his brother Dan and she might easily be the value. The mare is quite old at nine, but she’s won a quarter of her twenty races and comes her win fair form after a third over hurdles at Newbury last time. The key is that she’s back up in trip after two runs over two miles and everything suggests that will suit. She is 5lb higher here than her hurdle mark, but remember this is a horse who back in May of 2022 was second at Haydock over 3m in a big field. Was also a good third off 130 at Kempton that year and I would not be surprised if this decent prize has not been a target for some time.

14:35 Market Rasen – Eldorado Allen

Here’s another veterans’ handicap chase but this time over 3m. Some old favourites meet again here. It’s not going to be easy for ELDORADO ALLEN under 11st 10lb but his prominent style will be suited to this track and he rallied well just behind Copperhead and Numitor at Cheltenham last time. The Joe Tizzard challenger has been dropped 1lb for that effort – every bit helps – and gets the help from Brendan Powell in the saddle. This is a really competitive heat, but he has a fine chance of being in the mix.

15:00 Windsor – Blueking Doroux

Up in class for a conditions hurdle over 2m4f. Langer Dan is much the best on ratings but he’s hard to fancy until March! BLUEKING D’OROUX might be the horse most suited to the way the race is run, as I’d imagine he’d either lead or track Salver. The Paul Nicholls runner weakened from the last behind Crambo in the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot last time when he didn’t see out the extended 3m trip. That suggested he comes into this in good shape and he returned this term over about this distance with a fine second at Ascot to the very useful Lucky Place. Harry Cobden is on top in a tight event.

Market Rasen 15.10 – Dream Shadow

A bumper with Listed status over an extended 2m. Not a race I can be too adamant about, but DREAM SHADOW should run a huge one for Fergal O’Brien and Jonny Burke. I like the fact this mare has a bit of exeperience under her belt having one a point-to-point and gone twice to Uttoxeter. She was a beaten favourite on debut but got the job done nicely when last seen.

15:35 Windsor – Secret Squirrel (each-way)

A cracking handicap hurdle over 2m. Kabral du Mathan brings in the best recent form but is up 8lb for a defeat at Ascot last time. That makes this tough, I’m interest in an each-way bet on SECRET SQUIRREL for Hughie Morrison and Nico de Boinville. The super cool looking horse has a lovely racing weight and was only a 4-1 chance in that Ascot event, falling when in third at the last. His jumping that day was poor, but he usually jumps well and if he gets it together here I think there’s every chance he can run a big one. Wasn’t a bad fifth at Sandown in a big field off this 126 mark in April.

So best of luck, and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me, Paddy?
