15:35 Breccia
Provided she’s as effective at Newcastle, BRECCIA could well follow up her Wolverhampton success. That form has been boosted, and she remains well handicapped on historical data. Zivaniya, the sole C&D winner in the field, is second choice ahead of Corsican Caper who is quite interesting at this level with Jo Mason back on board. A few others are also in the mix.
16:10 Making A Move
Most of the runners took part in either division one or division two of the 1m classified event here eight days ago. Unlucky MAKING A MOVE shaped best and is taken to get off the mark. Eva Rosie, who also suffered traffic issues, is second choice. From other lines of form, Concert Boy and Just Typical are respected at the weights.
16:45 Parkland
This is quite a tricky puzzle to solve but PARKLAND looked promising on his first three appearances and is given the vote in the hope he’s fully tuned up after a 224-day break.
Sovereign Sea won a very modest C&D novice on his debut in November but did it stylishly and is feared most, while Kingdom Of Time returned from a long absence with an encouraging run here last month and has a chance if able to build on that performance.
17:15 Oriental Prince (NAP)
Most of these are in good form, but there is no strong temptation to oppose progressive 4yo ORIENTAL PRINCE (NAP).
Jim Goldie’s 4yo found one too good when odds-on to complete a hat-trick over 6f here last week, but he was nicely clear of the third, and today’s drop back to 5f is probably in his favour. Thunder Star gave a good account when second over C&D recently and is next on the list, ahead of recent Wolverhampton winner Gustav Graves.
17:45 Gunnerside
This is a fairly competitive race for the grade, but it may still provide a good opportunity for GUNNERSIDE, who was in good form in handicaps here in the autumn and can be excused last month’s below-par run. Agent Mayfair (second choice) was placed over 5f 12 days ago and looks quite interesting on this return to 7f, while Believe Me Now and recent course winner Alexander James also make the shortlist.
18:15 Desert Master
The likes of DESERT MASTER, Beneficiary, and Three Beauz like to race up with the pace and, provided they don’t overdo it, could dominate. The selection had a bit in hand in winning 12 days ago, and he edges preference. As Three Beauz can be hard to predict, Beneficiary is second choice. Last year’s third Phoenix Star is not ruled out.
18:45 Fircombe Hall
The 7yo FIRCOMBE HALL is holding his form well and this stiffer 6f suits him better than Southwell’s flatter terrain over which he ran well last weekend. He should be finishing strongly, especially with the likelihood of a strong pace up front with at least four of these expected to force the issue. Sir Maxi, who was ahead of the selection last Saturday, is feared most ahead of Tomorrow Day.
19:15 Fortunate Star
This might not be strongly run (unless an out-of-touch Eldeyaar puts plenty of pace to the race), and such a scenario would not benefit Captain Vallo or My Boy Jack. It wouldn’t count against FORTUNATE STAR who has been running well over 5f and should be fine at 6f. King Of The Jungle gets second preference.
