17:00 – Lequinto
Lequinto is on a losing run of 12 which stretches back to June 2023 but he has fallen a long way in the weights and shaped well when third at Lingfield on New Year’s Eve. Lequinto was beaten two and three-quarter lengths and looked unlucky not to finish closer as he was denied a clear run over a furlong out but ran on strongly. That was an encouraging effort and he can build on that down in grade.
17:30 – Enola Grey
Enola Grey had been performing consistently without managing to win but she gained a deserved success in a seven-furlong handicap here a couple of weeks ago. Enola Grey did well to win there given she came from last to first in a steadily-run race and a 2 lb rise in the weights shouldn’t prevent her giving another good account back up in trip. The excellent form of Gemma Tutty is a factor in her favour, while new rider Warren Fentiman has looked good value for his 7 lb claim.
18:00 – Orangesandlemons
Orangesandlemons offered encouragement when runner-up at Newcastle on debut in November and she did likewise when filling the same position back at the same venue last month. She was beaten half a length but she pulled clear of the remainder and, with the promise of further to come, she looks the one to beat.
18:30 – Royal Zabeel
Royal Zabeel made a promising start for Mick Appleby when runner-up at Newcastle in November and he built on that to register an emphatic success at Southwell last month. Royal Zabeel impressed with how well he travelled before pulling a length and three-quarters clear and the way he moved through that contest suggests there could still be more to come for these connections. He gets the vote over Bobby Bennu who produced his best effort yet when successful at Lingfield in November.
19:00 – Fools Rush In
Fools Rush In bounced back to form when successful in a seven-furlong handicap at Southwell nine days ago and he should give another good account after edging up only 2 lb. He benefited from a well-judged front-running ride there so is nicely drawn in stall 2 to repeat the feat here. Where’s Freddy looks like one of the main dangers following an encouraging effort at Chelmsford where he ran on well without being able to get on terms from off the modest pace.
19:30 – Gustav Graves
Gustav Graves has struggled during this all-weather campaign but he has fallen in the weights as a consequence and he produced a more encouraging performance when not beaten far in fifth at Newcastle on Thursday. Gustav Graves is a stone below the mark he defied at Newcastle in March so is clearly well treated if able to build on the promise of his latest effort. He won five times on the all-weather last winter, including four times over this course and distance.
20:00 – The Resdev Way
The Resdev Way snapped a long losing run when landing a mile-and-three-quarter handicap here on his penultimate start and he wasn’t seen to best effect when only sixth here last time as he was ridden patiently in a race run at a modest gallop. He remains on a competitive mark and looks worth siding with in a weak event.
20:30 – Desiderata
Desiderata sprang a surprise when landing a classified stakes here on Saturday on his first start since joining Thomas Faulkner (previously with Ryan Potter) and he did so in emphatic fashion. He was ridden patiently but made good headway two furlongs, was produced to lead a furlong out and then pulled three and a quarter lengths clear. The style of that success suggests he’s capable of defying a penalty in this handicap if he doesn’t find the run coming too soon.
