12:35 – Lord Of Thunder
Joe Tizzard and Brendan Powell combined to take this last year, and they can repeat the trick with LORD OF THUNDER, who ran respectably at Exeter last month and remains a chaser to view positively with a first-time tongue tie applied. Mark of Gold, who took advantage of Personal Ambition’s last-fence blunder to make a winning start over fences at Ascot just over a fortnight ago, rates as the obvious danger.
13:05 – Risk It All
Despite failing to land a gamble on his hurdling debut last week, RISK IT ALL showed plenty to work on at Kempton, a lack of experience and steady pace catching him out, ultimately finishing third, but with progress on the cards, he could be the answer in what looks an interesting race of its type. Morning Air was impressive when winning at Leicester and is sure to leave the bare form of that trailing in her wake.
13:35 – As The Fella Says
AS THE FELLA SAYS fetched £60,000 after winning his point and started a short price for his Rules debut in a maiden hurdle at Warwick last month. He showed plenty of promise, too, beaten only by his main market rival who had the benefit of experience, and he looks a sure-fire improver with that run under his belt. As The Fella Says sets the standard at these weights and is fancied to prove too strong for previous winner The Bluesman.
14:05 – Monmiral
A winner at last year’s Cheltenham Festival and second in a Grade 2 already this season, MONMIRAL could have too much class for these back in handicap company. With rain forecast the conditions are likely to be testing and he’s shown he can cope with plenty of juice in the ground, as has Transmission who landed this race when it was soft underfoot last year. Cloud Dancer is unexposed over staying trips and he can get in the money, also.
14:40 – Minella Blueway
Evan Williams’ progressive MINELLA BLUEWAY is the least exposed chaser in the field and gets the vote with this first try beyond three miles likely to yield further improvement. There is plenty of stamina in his pedigree and he shaped like marathon trips will suit him at Windsor last time. Last year’s stylish victor Dom of Mary looks primed for another bold showing and is next on the list, although Animal, Unanswered Prayers, Broken Halo and East Street are all worthy of consideration too in a competitive Sussex National.
15:15 – I Shut That Dor
I SHUT THAT D’OR has won two of his last three starts, both over this course and distance and, though he was left with a simple task after his main market rival departed at halfway last time, there’s no denying he’s been rejuvenated since being switched to front-running tactics. He jumping was impressive on that occasion and, with the likelihood of an easy lead, he seems sure to launch another bold bid. Sun Joy left his chase bow behind when second at Sedgefield and is next best.
15:50 – Aggagio
A competitive seven-runner handicap. AGGAGIO could be the answer to this puzzle, having shaped better than his finishing position last time, so he’s on a winnable mark if back on-song. Any market support for the selection would be significant. Recent runner-up Bucephalus and course and distance winner Inferno Sacree both like to front run, and they can fill the placings and give Aggagio a nice lead into the race.
